  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

iPhone 4 at my front door, Fedex strikes again..

Sorry Jeff, Andrew is correct, I also willingly changed my Data plan on the iPhone 4 as I just simply very rarely use the internet on the iPhone now that I have the iPad with me every were.

BUt other wise I could have kept the unlimited data plan, only accessible to those of us which already were on it, but any new user will no longer have that privilege, and once you opt out of it with a Data plan change there is no going back, sucks I now, its a principal, but also something that I wanted to do on the Ipad and it is off course no longer available, I have no idea if I will pass the 2GB plan on the iPad... will see.

Good thing is that I only go to 3G when I just don't have WiFi access, as WiFi is faster any way, and seems that more places are doing the WiFi Free thing, as Starbocks also just recently announced that form July first they will too, offer Free WiFi.
 
Got mine today, however won't get a microsim for a week so can't do anything with it until I register it.

Whats peoples comments about this connection issue? Apparently because the casing is the antenna holding the phone kills the signal...
 
Man Apple Stores in L.A. really suck. I was under the impression that by pre-ordering an iphone-4, I wouldn't have to wait in any lines, otherwise I would have just had it shipped. Just got back from The Grove in L.A. and there are 3-5 hours of wait time for pre-orders. Ridiculous. I'll wait a month or two.. No device is worth 5 hours in a line, except for maybe an Epic ;)

I did the same thing. What was I thinking? I'll wait until the frenzy dies down and re-order.
 
Apple should put a warning for those that wish to pickup in store.. How stupid are they? Seriously? It takes 5 hours to get someone through a god damn line?
 
Yeah, decided to check it out here in Chicago... 6 hours. I'll wait till it's not a hassle.
 
I find it hilarious that they design a phone that is so fundamentally flawed that it doesn't work if you hold it. Thats like RED releasing a camera that can only shoot images whilst on a tripod...or worse still inside a pelican case ;)

They have one main job. Build a phone that can link to a network. So they charge a hefty sum for a seriously flawed device. The only way to counter it is to put a rubber bumper on it.

Now I probably would have bought one anyway to protect the phone but the metal edges are really nice and give the phone a great finish. Shame to cover it. Maybe they should release a clear bumper.
 
Regarding my data plan issue, the problem is we upgraded from an original iPhone and it had the original $20/month unlimited with text plan. This plan was terminated in '08, but those who never changed or upgraded could still have it. AT&T never allowed that plan to transfer on an upgrade. I knew that plan was old and done away with, i didnt know this phone still had it, thought it was on the newer unlimited plan like all our other iPhones -- we have a big family plan with 2 groups / 9 phones and 7 of them are iPhones.

That said, I stopped by the AT&T store and learned all this. The helpful lady there and her manager tried to activate the $30/month unlimited for the phone anyway and the system wouldn't allow them without entering upgrade info for an eligible 3G or 3GS phone.

They said that several of their iPhone4 customers upgrading from an original /"2g" phone are complaining about this. It's hard to judge data usage for most people coming from these older phones because most avoid downloading apps or serious surfing unless on wifi because Edge is so slow.
 
I upgraded with an edge network, first gen phone. It offered me the option of an unlimited plan. No prob here, but I went through Apple not AT&T for the upgrade.

Now if I could just get access to the directory structure without jailbreaking the phone, I might be able to figure out how to create custom themes for imovie...

Anyone know a good app for that?
 
No troubles here with signal or how we hold it. We were all over town with the phone today... Only place where the iPhone4 lost signal, bars completely dropped off, my 3GS dropped out as well. No case or bumper on the iPhone4 yet... Not paying $30 for a glorified rubber band. AT&T store had iFrog and a crappy offering from Speck for cases, didn't want to go near the Apple store insanity to see what they have, but that bumper looks lame. If that's really the best solution, they should've just integrated it into the phone...

It doesn't matter if I hold this in my left hand, right hand or between my toes...the signal SUCKS. It's MUCH worse than the 3GS. I know others aren't having problems, so maybe I have a lemon, but it's very frustrating. It is SUCH a great device...if it would just make clear phone calls!

Sitting here with 1 bar in my home office.

He he Davide, I didn't shoot a short with the RED ONE I don't think I will be shooting one any time soon with the iPhone 4, he he.

But I think its capability will be an invaluable tool for location and talent scouting, I hope ;~)
 
Mine arrived today, but I just got home @ midnight. So far, no activation, as it does not like my Order # that is on my invoice....

And I had an unlimited plan, and there was no option hen I ordered. Will have to see about getting this fixed tomorrow.

WFi works fine though.

Funny. It doesn't matter how we hold the iPhone4 here -- my wife holds it left-handed, me right. It works the same as my 3GS. Haven't found a decent case or protector for it, so it's being used bare other than when it's in a pocket inside her handbag.

Phone is seriously awesome. AT&T is offering me an early upgrade to iPhone4 from my 3GS for an additional $75. I'm probably going to do it just for the screen alone.

AT&T call quality and signal seem to vary from one market to the next. I can't ignore all the reports of the iPhone4 having trouble, so I'll hold off just a bit. I'm worried that there's a big inconsistency in their QC with all these phones they're shipping out. Or perhaps it just doesn't work as well in some areas vs. others. So I'll see how it shakes out first... I'd hate to get one and then find that it sucks compared to my 3GS every time I'm traveling.

I don't have my iPhone yet but when it gets here I would like to protect it.

Hehe, I was even thinking of putting a RED sticker on the back of the iPhone but the smallest they make is 3". I need a 2" RED sticker! Jim? :wink:
