Has anyone played with an iPad2 yet? Are they available in the US?

I need to get an iPad for general indie film work like script, storyboard, photos, production meetings and other general preproduction/production work, however making a smart buy is it worth getting the iPad2? I will also naturally use it for anything else it will be useful for. I take it the new RED app will work fine on the iPad? Are people aware of things that are in development that will require the faster processor and I understand there has been some kind of boost in the GPU department too. iPad's are a bargain at the moment and that is only set to get better, but is the move to iPad2 really worth it?

Thoughts?

I have one. My primary use has been to watch FXPHD courses, check email, and surf REDUser. Sadly, Safari does a poor job rendering the current REDUser site.

If you do get one, I recommend black version. The image will have a better perceived contrast ratio because of the black surround.

iPad 2 is awesome and definetly should've been what iPad 1 was...it's really nothing then a simple evolution... iPad 3 is probably where it will be at if they put something close to the "retina display" from the iPhone on it...

It's a lot nicer to hold and play games, surf the net etc. it feels like one could hold it for quite a while compared to the first one, at the same time the speed is definitely as Stacey said, noticeably faster then the first...and obviously faster compared to the iPhone 4...

The stuff that would be possible with it, will be so awesome, I can just imagine the Kickstarter Project Tapose working so well on it (if they optimize it correctly at first that is...which I hope they take time doing) --> http://kck.st/dMhS8W

We have 23 of them two 3G and one WiFi, all 64GB, this are for use with Live PLay, and since we will use the full version we need large capacity to take back Footage.

The iPad 2 are a great improvement over the original version, and yes they are faster and better in almost any way, but the screen,
we would have wish for the Retina display on them and we did not get it, other then that, super slim and super lite, perfect.

I agree with you on that Ketch, the new one is a big improvement but was really hoping for higher res screen as well. Oh well, Apple doesn't follow Red's "obsolescence obsolete" philosophy, wish they did. Also, I heard it was actually hard to source that many higher resolution screens at this point. My fingers cross that iPad 3 will be retina and 3D :)
