Been in the "bunker" now for more than six months.
Time to get some air again...

GAMP is now out in its first release version.

You can download it here:
http://gamp.io

GAMP is the fastest copy/ingest program I am aware of and very tweakable.
If you use this code upon registering:
GAMP2016 (or just click the link to the left where that is embedded), you get a 30 days free trial.

But GAMP is made to be a workflow tool, not only ingest/copy.

Quick tease to the workflow with metadata from Movieslate and into Premiere:

And we have an early adopter offer, for those signing up from reviews and other websites. Nearly 60% off the normal price for the first 6 months, for a full GAMP install.

I am learning a lot about software development through this process. There is a quantum leap between "almost done" to release.
Also there is a lot of functionality that isn't exposed to the user, without our proprietary hardware.
BUT GAMP loves MovieSlate® and Drylab Dailies Viewer and Adobe Premiere at this stage.
. All the transcoding tools are currently not exposed to end-user.

Here are some quick tutorials:
There is even a project with two full days of 2-camera shooting, movieslate and multichannel audio there, f you wanna play with the assisted logging yourself.

These are the things in the immediate pipeline
Multiuser security (if you need to ingest from multiple machines into the same project, or have users working with different parts of the program
.ALE export for AVID projects
Day report (for all user tasks of a calendar day)

GAMP has been in active use on large sets since August 2015.
And here is some feedback we have:

“LABO mixed realities represents a missing link when it comes to collecting metadata automatically from the camera and the shot log report from the script supervisor, bringing all the relevant metadata to editorial and dailies, combined with the right media assets.”
Trond Ramberg, workflow manager NRK – Norwegian Broadcast Corporation

Try it for free at GAMP.IO

And send requests and ideas to me here in this thread, or through the feedback function inside GAMP

I told my CEO how many hours I used to use to do the operations GAMP does in minutes, and he came up with a slogan:

Don't get divorced, get GAMP'ed

Not sure if I really like it.

I am more on the side of:
Happy GAMPing

Currently working on the Ingest of weapon "mixed" magazines, and see the need to be able to have a few choices, but I am also very open to ideas...

1. Ingest "as is"
2. Ingest, but separate RAW and video-encoded, leave segmented files (prores&MXF)
3. Ingest, separate RAW and video-encoded, join video, encoded segments (prores and MXF)
4. Treat encoded video as edit-proxies or camera originals (for downstreams workflows)

Any other suggestions?

Yes. There will be a Windows release, and probably a Linux release for a specific LINUX build.

With our current userbase, MACOSX is so dominating that we have chosen that platform to build the feature-set, but the code is built to be able to make windows and Linux build down the line.

This priority may change, but I wouldn't expect a Windows build until October with the current roadmap.

We have a project to translate the software and documentation tu multiple Languages.

Chinese and Spanish are first out.

Then we're in the bunker on Hindi, Portugese and Japanese.

We will also release a film-school option.

I have been using this software for a while. It's great. It's fast. It's reliable. You won't go wrong with this as your main backup/injest software. If you need it to do more, you can buy up to the package that syncs and creates dailies as well.

hmm ... I did the early adopter for $99, it gave me a license for copy/conform but not to ingest. All my files hit a mac file system first, I also allocated a 27 tbyte of raid for GAMP_FILES. I'm not getting the difference in the licensing between ingest & copy/conform.

Hi
You should have both.
I'll have that fixed in a sec, and I'll mail you a temp license until I get hold of the right person.

I looked through all the tutorials but have a couple of questions:

1) I don't quite see where the ability to output dailies comes in. Did I miss something? How does that work?
2) There is discussion of exporting FCP7 xml but, if I am not mistaken, that is not the same as FCPX xml (a subset?). Will you eventually support FCPX?
3) Is Movie Slate the only external metadata ingest? Is it via XML? Can a CSV be imported? My understanding - which may not be correct - is that the XML from Movie Slate is limited compared with what can be output via CSV.
4) And does it use only timecode to synch audio and video?

BTW - I did try out the ingest function early in the beta and was pretty impressed. I am likely to get GAMP even if just for that function.

And a couple of extraneous thoughts:

- the music under the videos is excruciating - especially when you watch more than one in a row. I finally turned it off. :-)
- would be great to have a voice track to explain what you are seeing. Otherwise, like watching a film with subtitles - hard to watch the action on the screen and read the subtitles at the same time
- Don't love the GAMP name. Just my reaction.

Overall, very cool stuff. Thanks for keeping REDusers informed and in the loop!

Thanks, I have three days of compositing & vfx I need to finish(i think it's like 14 shots), so no fanatical rush. Also I just got movieslate pro to work with this, I did my first shoot with movieslate wifi link to the redweapon camera which also integrated with my script which is in Finaldraft. It's real dreamy to see to see how this all hooks together. I also use adobe premiere as my primary editing platform on another mac pro, which is on the same network as the ingest server, so this should be a good example. I'm also going to be sending the timecode out through the movieslate into my PC that receives the xsens 240 fps performance capture data while recording audio on my nagra vi, that meta data right now is totally manual for me so I'll research in your software how to get that going(all these files go to the same ingest server which will have the GAMP_FILES directory). Real excited about this.

EDIT: I see you have already updated the licenses, thanks ;)

1) Gotcha. The automated dailies workflow is linked with the LABO custom hardware... for now.
That said, you can make your editorials the watchfolder in Drylab Dailies Creator and it will do the job.
It is not how we want this to work for the long run. It is a quick and actually working hack, though.

We will make it possible to create dailies at several stages.
a) externally with a watchfolder
b) When you do the conform and logging
c) At ingest

We plan to support LUTs, CDLs and the FilmLight colour format as meta-grades (on cineon files), + the same baked.

The transcoding tools are already built into GAMP, but the UI is not intuitive enough that I have allowed it to be part of this first release.
It will come though.

2) The order of exports will be fcp7 (which is current), .ale (which will be precent in June) and FCPX (which does still not have a date, but my hunch is september)

3) As of now: Yes. You can also punch the data manually, but that option is NOT as elegant as we plan it. It will incrementally get better towards October.
We plan to support Drylab Script Report, qTake and Ambient (in that order), FCP7, FCPX and .ale as "generic input" and I think Adobe has a tool, too...

The second part of your question is a trick question.
You can basically describe it all in an .xml, a JSON or a CSV. The problem here is good parsing of the data.
If you by .xml mean "FinalCut7" .xml, you're right.
But to make these things flowing nicely, we have to conform to a number of "standards".
Our JSON is non-standards, and lets us save a very comprehesnsive dataset and file- and metadata relation description.
Noone reads that though, so it is of little value outside preserving the data for future use within GAMP :)

4) Currently only TC with offset is used.
We are working on more precise models, but at this stage that is the case.
AND I am very open to ideas as to how you would like to work with this

Music:
Hahahaha
I agree.
But I was told my voice was boring (which it is) So music + text is neutral (as you can turn the music off)

The GAMP name... OK.
It's a bit fun in Norwegian.
We tried to explain what the app should do:
Do all the hard and boring work in a solid way.
A "gamp" in norwegian is an unsexy but trustworthy horse that pulls the plow any day. Even the rainy ones.

Then that also fit with an acronym that fits the app

Good Automated Manufacturing Process.

It can maybe still be changed.
I have kinda grown familiar with it.

We're revving this up a bit, running training courses and drumrolling forward to the first public viewing of the Live previz and deferred on-set compositing workflow (this sounds maybe odd, but this is one of the workflows I am really excited about).

Today we'll have a run-throgh with the Norwegian filmphotographers and DITs in Oslo.

https://vimeo.com/167108113

Looking for DIT's/Data wranglers and editors to work on perfecting the logging window and workflow into different editorial platforms.

Had the chance to present GAMP and POPART today for the Cinematographers Society
Last public thing before the first presentation of the Live Previz June 10th.
People were pretty happy

Me and the box formerly known as HAL.
Records and live transmits multiple shuttersync'ed video streams and all kinds of metadata.

And GAMP makes happy

Getting some DSCM 2.0 specific features ready for beta testing for ingest/logging (for now, this is only true for Prores, and not .mxf)

If GAMP recognises that this is a magazine with both prores and .r3d

1. You have the option to sort the raw and prores into two different folders.
2. You have the option to concatenate the segmented prores files into one longer prores file.

I'll link to a a time-limited test-GAMP for these features here later this week.

General user manual and example projects at: http://gamp.io

This is a not yet released version on GAMP currently working on a feature here.

Specific updates over the current "Release version"

1. Multiuser functionality (several users can work on the same project)
2. If a DSCM mag with RAW and prores ingested, and you have set it up, the prores gets sorted into the EDIT_PROXIES folder
3. If there are segmented prores files for a clip and you have chosen so, the files are joined into one file.

.mxf functionality is not yet supported

Feedback and ideas appreciated.

Still only OS X.
The exported fcp7 xml's translates well with 7toX for FinalCutPro:

Enjoy

Can anybody else speak to their experiences with this software? I have been manually drag and dropping files from red minimag to external HD on a mbp, and even tho it tells me it its copying all data its short a gig here and there, just random r3d files missing, and it's basically scaring the crap out of me. Gunleik, would GAMP be the proper solution for fixing this problem I am having?

Thanks

In short, yes you should look into another method of data management. As for file sizes you may be seeing good copies just displayed differently on drives when looking at data size. Making this somewhat foolproof is the easiest way to go. Something like Gunleik's app or others out there that make data management visually easy to use without having to get under the hood.
