What if RED took the RED One MX sensor and refitted it into a Scarlet body, including the handle, monitor and SSD and sold it for $17.500?

Who would buy that?

It would make sense for RED to discontinue the RED One housing and move their whole business to the modular Scarlet/Epic system.

Could they use their experience with this sensor to build such a camera quickly? Could they fit the parts?

Is the volume big enough to permit aggressive pricing?

What if they demanded $14.900? $12.900?

What would a RED One MX sensor in a Scarlet package do to the market?

For 17,500....I'd be out at the point of release. And I really don't think they'd sell to many, to close to the Epic, and the entire Scarlet base being ready below 12K would be eliminated.

If you can get a Body, Handle, 5", SSD Module and 2 REDVolts for 12K that's where I'd be more than willing to buy. More than that and it will be tight.

It might be something I'd save for, but nothing I could buy from the start.

I had a similar thought to you some time ago (and I think many current Red One users selling their ONE's in the marketplace think the same.)

We shouldn't forget that the ONE came out 4 years ago. Its not an obsolete camera by any means, its still being used in top films and other big budget productions around the world, but as technology evolved, I could see Red One Specs in a Scarlet package. That was what I was hoping for with the Epic S to begin with.

Its all a matter of price point right now. Personally I think that if we're getting a 10K or bellow camera, its NOT going to have Red One specs. a 13K camera (original price point of the Epic S) would bring in my view Red One MX performance to the Scarlet.

If a Red One MX specced Scarlet S35 (with a ssd module and Canon mount included) is announced thursday at 13K, I think this would obliterate the F3 and canon Nov 3rd market.
