Don't wish to be inappropriate on the REDuser forum, but we think that the Phantom cameras make excellent companions to the RED and that they are of great interest to the owners and users of RED cameras. With that in mind here is some basic info and some links.

Vision Research has just announced their latest high speed Digital Cinema camera, the Phantom Flex. A 2.6K camera, the Flex is capable of shooting 1920x1080 at 2800fps, making it the fastest full HD camera in the world. The Flex also offers 4:4:4 dual-link HD-SDI output or Uncompressed RAW recording to the solid state CineMag. Using Abel Cine Tech's new HDx2 B4/PL Optical Adapter, 2/3" lenses can be used on the Flex at full 1920x1080.

The Phantom Flex will debut at NAB in the Vision Research and Abel Cine Tech booths.

speeeeeeeeed!, amazings cameras!

good presentation Mitch.

Rather random observation, but 4/3 lenses ought to suit the 1920x1080 image circle (22mm) just right. Probably more quirk than intent; I'd guess it's jus that it matches the 2x 2/3 size mentioned above.

Soon guys, soon.

I suppose DR would also be increased, since the higher sensitivity likely comes from a lower noise floor. If so, it would be very welcome for multi-camera coverage including M-X.

Please don't forget to let us know once there are samples. And make a video already Mitch, we wanna see your grin whilst bragging to us about it under your arm. Wait, do you have one already? Is that why you are saying soon, cause you got them on their way?

OH. MY. GOD.

Phantom HD was hard enough. Now Phantom FLEX?! This is going to drive me insane! :mad2::gun::cry::001_wub::emote_whack:

P.S. Anyone else notice the similarity to RED's color scheme? :coolgleamA:

Mitch, how will price compare to Phantom HD Gold?

Can these new cameras be put into a 3D configuration?

The Flex is just a little more than the HD Gold. Both cameras can be used in a 3D rig and have been successfully numerous times in the past. The Flex has Genlock which makes it that much easier (the cameras would always absolutely slave to one another, but now the video output syncs as well as the RAW files) and in addition to IRIG timecode (that military timecode -- what's used for GPS), the Flex has SMPTE timecode at supported frame rates (up to 60fps). Can't have SMPTE for high speed because there are only 60 discrete parts per second in the spec, but it sure is nice ffor shooting the camera at 24fps.

It does not have to be used tethered. Available in June.

Sample footage coming, but there is certainly plenty of 2000+ fps footage out there on the 'net.
