  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Introducing the Nikon Zr

Not quite the same ;-) it's ok when I use a naturalistic look but if I use a strong lut the color fall appart on the Slog3 footage.
Do you use cinematch?... I use Phantom luts for the fx series and Komodo and I was planning on doing some tests to see if they match...

Never tried. Tell me what your findings are. But I bet you'll allways be able to downgrade an image. I wonder if you would find the same texture to a picture based on different sensor tech.

The issue with the Sony sensors is that they have a bit of a digital look and the colors tend to be less accurate than Red IME.

I have a few questions.

How much footage would you fit in a 2tb card?

Is it a list of which cards that is supported. Im looking at cards from angel bird for example.

Will nikon make there own audio module for the hotshoe or will they rely on third partys? I seen a tascam version so far.

Have anybody created of good filmaking lenses for the zr? I have a sony 28-135 motor zoom, but im not sure i want to get the megadap, as im not convinced of the autofokus performance.

I can only give an answer for N-RAW High Quality using N-LOG on the Z8/Z9 at 8K60p. For a 2tb card, it is just under 45 minutes. Z8 I can't really get that fully continuous due to heat and power issues with the weak battery. The Z9 can easily record the entire 2TB card with a single battery and no heat issues (except maybe high ambient temps or direct intense sunlight.) Not sure how this will apply to the Zr and also cannot speak to any other formats.

Edit: My cards were OWC brand 2TB cards. I have not had any bad experiences with their cards, YMMV.

Tascam will be releasing a ZR compatible XLR Adapter. That should transmit via the Hot/Smart Shoe.

And Nikon recently made the Nikon NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ Lens. I suspect a host of other glass is on the way. Likely for both Z and PL (I hope).

For those of you not on social media, I do indeed have the ZR for a few days. I have lots of thoughts of things to add/change via firmware. But really impressed so far and it is real, real small.

I just picked up the ZR. Can anyone tell me the differences in workflow between r3d and r3d NE? I shot some footage at the 2nd base ISO of the ZR (6400) and the footage was extremely noisy. Is ISO irrelevant as it is with, say, the Komodo on the ZR? This camera's workflow and monitoring tools are a bit chaotic right now...
