  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Introducing the Bolt 1000 & 3000

just also voicing being down for gb on 1000! Interested to hear results too and more how it compares to its sister company device: paralinx arrow-x setup too. pretty big gap in the price.

+1 for 3000' Group Buy.

We've got a 3000 and 1000 plus a couple of Gen2 sidekicks. Very happy so far, although I've found that they won't pair using the little recessed button - you have to trigger it from software using the Bolt Manager app. Awesome once all set up though - just ordered a couple of 500s as well.

I picked up the Bolt 1000 about a month ago and I'm really impressed with it. I the 1Tx/2Rxs SDI/HDMI package with the array antenna. I came from the 300s and I'm super happy with the purchase.

The smaller TX is awesome. They are super quick to reconnect, which I REALLY appreciate. The range is right in the sweet spot and have yet to be into a situation on set where it cuts out, but to be honest I haven't taken it to the limits on set. I did do a very informal test and walked around my neighborhood. Pretty consistent for about two blocks (maybe 600-700 feet). After that, I would get signal in certain spots, I also didn't have a completely clear line of site, which says a lot for the range and that last 300 feet I might be missing. Tried the test with and without the array antenna. The antenna definitely helped with the range and consistency of the signal.

As always, built LUTS are handy especially during this IPP2 time where the LUT aren't applied to playback on Epic-Ws. Timecode works great, haven't tried using any markers yet with the new units, but did hear there was some firmware issues.

Two little notes, they got rid of the side mounting holes on the units, presumably to cut down the size/weight, so now there is only one 1/4-20 hole at the bottom of the unit, plus the two smaller mounting holes for Teradek AKS. It's a little annoying as I liked being able to have a passthrough hole to mount the units directly to other 1/4-20 holes. Another thing is the "converter" is only HDMI to SDI. I get it, because the SDI has passthrough, but would be nice to have it go both ways and say you had an SDI input, you'd have both SDI out and HDMI out – could be handy. Never really an issue for me though since I stick to SDI 99% of the time and the passthrough works for me. Purchased the HDMI/SDI version since I do some rentals as well.

If I could have swung for the 3000s, I would have loved the range, but the 1000s have a good balance of price and range. I've seen the GBs for the other wireless systems and I even tried the Cinegears Ghost Eye GB way back before I got the 300s. Worked fine, but at the end of the day, producers know Teradek. Paralinx is in that boat as well and would be a good choice too from what I've read, but haven't had any experience with them.

Hope that helps with anybody out there on the edge.

btdubs, would be totally down for a group buy for the sidekick V2 :D

Great review! Thanks!

Have you tried it with transmitter in a car and receiver in another car behind? Max distance?

thanks
