  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

introducing redstockshots

We've shot 2nd unit for a few films shot overseas that were supposed to take place in NYC - so we have a good handle on the typical shots feature guys need to license or shoot - we also have a "pet project" called "4K MAYHEM" we are working on which is just a massive collection of stuff breaking, glass shattering, dust, sparks, debris and other elements that effect guys always want - let's stay in touch. I have been approached by the usual suspects - but I don't like the % they pay.

Yes, and we will need a lot of greenscreen stuff, cows, cars, people from all over the world for FX guys and webpages, right?

Great Daniel.

You understood the Jim's way of doing business. To be fast, to do it for many, and to get it affordable. This will make this service n1 in very little time. Because every body finds it's interest.

Hope you still will find time to work on your projects!

See you soon.

Pat.

If all REDfootage goes to redstockshots, what you think, will happen? There is a good chance for good rates for all of us. That was indeed my core idea. I'm not really a business man I guess but I don't like to sell footage, where I just get 20% back. That should be more, and it will be more, why: because the RED workflow is fully digital, we don't need to deal with 1000 of different formats and workflows, we have just one: the best.

I agree 20% sucks. Some pay more but stock footage is a business.
And don't forget www.artbeats.com, they are shooting RED footage
now. IF you can get enough loyal RED shooters that don't prostitute
themselves at istock and revostock you might have something.
But be prepared to spend tens of thousands every month on advertising and
get solid contacts written up by a lawyer. You must get exclusive shooters
shooting footage for ONLY your website, be prepared with a solid business plan and about One Million in the bank.

Well, it all seems like something is going on here.
Happy bithday Daniel, and thank you for starting this, I'm very interested.

Keep on Rocking and Rolling.

Emmanuel

Great Idea...count me in ..Two Reds on the East coast !

Perhaps I'm a bit naive, RDS will NOT be responsible for dealing with rights for footage, everybody who put his footage on redstockshots has to know, if HE has the rights or not. redstockshots is just a platform, no millions behind. That's why I discuss this here to know, if this would work or not.

We actually built the original site (code not design) and provided post services to launch RIBBIT FILMS - http://www.ribbitfilms.com/cgi/site/site.cgi/

They have done very well.

People want royalty free and a DEEP, DEEP library.

Ribbit has uploaded to pond5.com now.

And, don't forget Thought Equity,
Their contacts really suck and they to convience
you that rights managed is the way to go.
Unless you have footage that is so rare that cannot
be shot without considerable time effort and/or money
than rights managed = 0 sales,
Many of the agencies I deal with will not even consider
rights managed. They would rather own the footage
outright so they can sell it later.

I don't understand? What's the point? There are already hundreds if not thousands of clearing houses. If a shooter puts his footage on your site
how does the client buy it? They have to contact the shooter?
That won't work for most shooters. Shooters are looking for outlets
where they upload footage and forget about it. Most shooters are to busy
to deal with making a $200 stock footage sale. And most don't have a way
to deliver stock footage. That is why istock has been so successful (at the expense of the shooter)
Remember, istockvideo is a division of istockphoto - the same folks that fucked up stock footage sales for professional.
The owner of istockphoto sold it to GETTY for $50 Million. So he has a few bucks to spend on advertising on sites like DVXUSER.com and a site that has a cow in it's name.
It is the McDonalds of stock footage and know some agencies that create
entire ad campaigns around footage they bought from istock for $250!!
It's a cut throat business and you have to have your own gang that is loyal to you to survive.....:gun:

Hi, may I introduce you redstockshots, the future agency for RED stock footage and other worldwide services for REDheads. Have a look on this:

www.redstockshots.com

and sign for a newsletter.

It is the aim of redstockshots to link REDusers up with future customers worldwide. Customers should even be given the opportunity to award orders to specific cameramen and camerawomen that are registered with redstockshots, whether as a second unit or for entire productions ASO. DOP’s will be given their own page, on which they can upload their showreels and introduce themselves to film production companies, agencies and TV stations. A quick search or click on a map of the world will show where RED services are being offered and which camera people feel at home in which genres.
Finally, companies specializing in the hiring out of RED equipment or similar services are also most welcome.

First Service will be BACKSTAGE, opens in about 18 days.

Here are some first previews, hope you like it, or just visit www.redstockshots.com comments and suggestions are always welcome

Man, don't tell me that your REDs are N: 222 and N: 2222.

Luck? Destiny? Numerology? Global conspiration?

I need answers.

There will be enough incredible footage to share. You don't have to ask a lion, a mountain, a city, a cloud, if I need to take care for his privacy. Right? And if there are people or difficult subjects on the picture, REDusers will learn to deal the rights. And uploading and downloading digital stuff is getting faster and easier every day. So, what is the point? First of all, redstockshots will be a platform for showing his work to others and to get jobs on this way. And by the way, I have never met more loyal people than on this site.

Hi, I don't know how this comes. But it's great fun.

Good luck Daniel. The site looks great. Someone else mentioned Hive Image earlier and that's my Red One stock footage website. If there's any way I can help you out just ask, I'm sure I'll probably end up sticking some stuff up on your site too!

Sure, I understand. It could work as a portfolio site. Isn't this site sorta doing that? "REDusers will learn to deal the rights" - Until that agency/movie studio wants and needs some iron clad releases and such.

Anybody posting on your site should have a paypal business account so that you can automate a payment procedure to authorize the high quality download along with standard full clearance PDF. Remember the easiest the more you sell.
