OConnor’s new Camera Accessory Division has just begun deliveries of their innovative new O-Grip handgrip system. The O-Grips use a steel universal ball joint to make the handgrips both extremely adjustable and extremely strong. They are endlessly orientable and can support more than 44lbs each. They can also be attached to one another for more adjustability and the rod bridge fits to both 15mm and 19mm studio rods as well as lightweight 15mm rods. Watch the video to learn more.

Thanks Mitch!

I wanted to point out a few other features of the O-Grips. The bridge design while being unique in that it accommodates all three rod standards will also clear an ARRI dovetail; which means they can stay attached while on a tripod and then the entire camera can instantly be removed for handheld operation without removing/ reconfiguring any front end accessories. We have also added a third O-Grip interface directly under the middle of the bridge allowing you to use a single O-Grip module as a pistol grip for smaller builds.

Many (if not all) our beta testers have come up with unique ways of using these grip modules for applications other than handgrips. With the unique needs of production and a standard 3/8ths male thread they can be attached to virtually anything tapped for 3/8ths. For example, imagine the beefiest articulating arm handling very large payload capacities. In the coming months we will be announcing some other uses for O-Grips which I think many people will appreciate.

I was told at NAB they were shooting for a 2k price tag?

I would love to be wrong

That's the price for a bridge with four handgrips (double extensions). Two handgrips and a bridge is $1200.

The single jointed set C1244-0001 includes two grip modules and a bridge; USD list price is $1200.00

The double jointed set C1244-0002 includes four grip modules and a bridge; USD list price is $2000.00

We tried very hard to hit the price point we felt was appropriate for the market relative to what else is out there. If you could see inside a grip module; it’s some very innovative engineering centered around a solid titanium core.

This is truly a professional product designed to last for years of use and abuse.

On our website Sales page for the O-Grips, there is a Configuration tab to choose between single-jointed system (one bridge & two grips) and double-jointed system (one bridge and four grips). On the same page under the Related Products: Camera Accessories tab, a link to the single O-Grip page can be found.

Got a few questions regarding the new "third middle O-Grip interface." For those out there who might still be wondering...

For example, this would be good in situations where you want to keep one hand on the FF.

Of course, you can go double-jointed on the pistol position as well as the conventionals.

That center mount hole has the potential to be adapted for use as a lens support, thereby lessening the items mounted on the rods.

Yes, but it would require a non-standard post height and 15mm studio would not readily work as the thread is dead-center to lens axis.

Also, it wouldn't be snap-on, which would lessen its appeal as a lens support. With handgrip bracketry, the mistake-proof closed clamp is clearly the way to go.

But we could talk about giving the lens support idea a shot if there were enough interest given what we'll have to work with.

Just picked up a single joint set over at Abel in NYC today. Seem rock solid and really comfortable so far. Using them with the Mantis shoulder pad and the combo seems great.

Yes, that sounds like a really good combination. If you have a moment for snapshots sometime, would love to see some pictures. Enjoy your grips!

I just realized on a shoot today that I can put my long Zacuto arm with a 15mm quick spud in one of the extra holes in the bridge adapter so I can position the lcd nice and far out in front of me as well. Been very happy so far.

That's a cool idea! Just be careful -- if you're using the 15mm LWS holes, one of them is actually a bit elliptical in order to be able to compensate for possible alignment and/or tolerance variations. This elliptical hole won't clamp quite as tight as the other (cylindrical) hole, so it's not the one to use when hanging something off of one rod. You can feel immediately which hole is which, the cylindrical hole fits snugger. Since the bridge is fully symmetrical, you can turn it so that the cylindrical hole is on the side you want (for your application I assume camera left)

Cheers

Hello Everyone,

The new O-Grips video is up on our YouTube site:

http://www.youtube.com/wwwOCONcom#p/u/0/Exd7PlDxCzY

I would like to point out that the support bridge shown is the original design and not the bridge that is currently shipping. A change was made due to customer feedback requesting it clear a camera dovetail which also allowed us to put an O-Grip attachment position at the bottom center of the bridge for single pistol grip applications.
