  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Introducing Dynamic Perception Timelapse Dolly Stage Zero!

Oh, my apologies if I crossed the line... :blush2:

Target price: $799 (with accurate speed controller) - we'll have that firmed up in the next few weeks.

I saw this already on vimeo. I'm interested too, once it starts shipping.

I'm totally over pre-ordering anything.

I've been watching and dabbling in development of this system (throwing in my 2 cents) for a long time, and it just looks fantastic to finally see it in action. The beauty of this system is that it is designed and built by very dedicated timelapse aficionados like Jay and those who helped him, rather than being some tacked-on afterthought to an existing slider product, for example.

The system is also compatible with the upcoming "OpenMoco" open-source motion-control software project that is being developed by the online timelapse community.

I think 20 lbs should be no problem.

Then I'll definitely be down for one.. or two ;~) great possibilities for both Scarlet and Epic! BUt need the weight support to be able to do S3D with it!

I'm thinking of few S3D TimeLapse scenes for "Rape of a Beauty" that will be absolutely Killer with this rig.

Outstanding! I can see how I'd mainly use it with my 5D, but do you really think it will support an EPIC-- let alone a RED ONE?

Support a Red One is another question. Are you talking about mounting a stripped-down body straight to the dolly car platform, or will you need a fluid head or pan-tilt head on it? For just the Red itself, no head, it will probably work fine. But once you start raising a Red One up higher than the center of the travel axis, any slider system can become less stable. For R1, the best option would probably be some type of low-profile leveler, not a fluid head or pan-tilt.

I tried mounting my R1 to a different cine slider with my Sachtler 9+9 (using a 150mm high hat) and it was a joke! The Red One body was 15 inches above the track.. totally not a good idea.

I'd have either the RED ONE or EPIC stripped down with a light Canon lens and maybe a 5" LCD. The RED One can be a beast but the Epic looks much more manageable. For most of my personal work I use a Cartoni head which is about 4 lbs. pretty light and works well even though some producers sneer at it and prescribe a 30+ lb. 2575. Total overkill.

I'm using a dirt cheap dolly made out of pvc tubes and a sheet of plexiglass. Really embarrassing. For $700 this DP dolly is a steal.

Well if you can level the dolly, that head will probably work with a system like this. It's the big heads with large bowls that wreak havoc on sliders, because they sit atop them so high and awkwardly.

Very nice time-lapse.

Also dolly looks attractive but it should be only for lighter cameras like a DSLR, Scarlet, Epic base module, etc,...

I ordered long ago Kessler's Cine Dolly that also can load R1 and according to my German

reseller they finally shipping to me next week.

Stay tuned.

Thanks for the feedback guys!
We think 15-20 pounds should be golden with the rail under the camera for support but I'd like to do some weight testing this week to see where the max would be for under-slung/vertical/etc...

Could one of you tell me the minimum weight your R3D One rigs produce?

I'm also curious if something like this would work to keep your bowl and camera center of gravity low??

Hey Jay, its S3D (for Stereoscopic 3 Dimensional) R3D is the files that the camera produces ;~).

An S3D rig with two Red One cameras will produce a rig starting at above 20lb naked!

While an S3D rig with two Epic will start at about 10LB naked, so even 15LB will not do for an Epic S3D, but will do nicely for the Scarlet S3D rig.

Basically for the S3D rig for two Epic cameras you need to have 20LB + in order to allow for some accessories and two lenses.

Suggestion, if you see that the current rig you have does not support such weight for an S3D configuration, you could then calculate the additional cost for a much stronger Binary Bar ancf charge accordingly, or look at the possibility to instead of just "2" supporting points to have "3", meaning "3" Tripods instead of "2", just a tough..
