I just got this email from a well known rental/sales company and thought it would be intriguing to some and a bit of a laugh for others.

Check the last camera at the bottom of the list....

I have to imagine they threw it in there as sorta of a can't hurt to ask type of thing.

For a limited time, Panasonic is offering their top of the line VariCam 3700 P2 HD camera for $29,950. That's an incredible $30,000 off list price!

To help you step up to the quality of the 1080p VariCam 3700 and experience the benefits of P2 technology, Panasonic is offering this price when you trade in one of a large range of professional cameras that use a format other than P2.

With master-quality 1920x1080, 10-bit video, and dual-link RGB 4:4:4 outputs, the VariCam 3700 is a premier HD cinema-quality camera.

Cameras eligible for trade-in under this program include:

2/3" DVCPRO & DVCPRO HD Camcorders
2/3" Standard Definition Betacam or SX Camcorders (Sony, Ikegami, Hitachi, Philips BTS, Thompson)
2/3" Sony HDCAM Camcorders (F900x, F950, HDW750, HDW730, HDW700)
2/3" & 1/2" Sony XDCAM Optical Disk Camcorders
2/3" Ikegami EditCam Hard Disk Camcorders
2/3" Thompson/GVG Infinity Digital Camcorders
RED Cameras
With financing, you can put a VariCam 3700 to work for you for under $1000 per month. (Based on $29,950 for 36 months with a $1.00 purchase option for qualified applicants.)

This is a limited time offer. To ensure the best availability of cameras, we're suggesting that our clients act quickly.

I will be happy to pass on contact info if anyone is interested.

So wait, that means that you get to buy the Panasonic camera AFTER you give in your camera, which could be a RED or a $85K F-900, etc, and then after giving your old camera for free you still get to pay $30 K for the Panasonic? Sounds like a sucker deal all around to me, even if RED were not there...

dont think anyone will be trading in a F900 or Red...this is for all the Beta SP camera owners who couldnt get $500 for their camera but can now get a new varicam for $30k.

Fair enough, that makes sense, of course. But the nerve to suggest a trade in for an F-900, a Viper, or a RED is, well, ballsy. Anyway, the more great cameras out there, RED or not, the better for all of us.
