Every once in a while I come across Kickstarter projects that are relevant to film making; I'll try to keep a list of those projects here. (If you don't yet know Kickstarter, read here.)

I'll start with the project LIFX, basically a lightbulb that can be controlled by wifi (both intensity and color temperature). Should be great for practicals, and down the line to re-create living lights. The project is already more than 10x funded. Ends November 14th.

CineMoco, a small dolly with programmamble motor. Add some small tracks, and you have a time-lapse motion system (1 axis) in your backpack. Ends October 26th. Fully funded.

A potentially wacky way for handheld camera work, a electrically powered skate board, Boosted Boards. Ends Oct 11th. Fully funded.

This is a great thread - I love seeing experiments in human ingenuity first-hand like this.

Based on Jeff Chow's quick console idea, I sure wouldn't mind seeing RED put together some kind of Quick Balance console for Redcine - something with big buttons and simplicity like this where you can adjust color temp, gamma curve, ISO, and exposure through simple touch adjustments without have to carry a panel, for fast one-lighting....maybe something that works with the single clip RedPlayer. Would be nice for fieldwork.

This is one of my favorite successfully campaigned kickstarter projects (and one of my favorite inventions of all time). A very affordable and precise 3D printer by formlabs. This is a designers dream. I'm sure I'll get one as soon as they come out. Unfortunately there is a lawsuit out against them, hopefully they get through it because I would love to have one.

Hi! I would like to present you another interesting kickstarter project from a talented electronic musician: Henry Saiz. For his next album he wants to explore the influence of the environment on creativity, to show how an artist can use everything around them as an inspiration to convert this energy into music. To achieve that he will be writing and producing each of the tracks in a special iconic part of the planet, collecting unique sounds, collaborating with guest musicians and capturing each setting's unique atmosphere. The concept of this album is to materialize the essence of each place into a song. Along with the album recording we will shoot a film that is not simply a making-of, but a visual journey including music videos that will help listeners delve deeper into the meaning of the album. The film will be a combination of both documentary and fiction. And of course it will be shot on RED ;)
If you like epic and emotional electronic music and powerful evocative visuals please visit the link and join the team! Thanks so much in advance!
