  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Interesting future Mac Pro rumor

Funny you should mention that Terry as I just traded in a 3,1 and cash for a 4,1 yesterday.

BTW, to go to a 5,1 was a huge jump in price even on the used market...

Cheers - #19

do a firmware hack and upgrade to 5.1 firmware, making a 2009 Macpro act like a 2010-12. It enables substituting a hex core cpu for the quad core (s). I do it all the time for friends and resell, but it is very straightforward upgrade.

Considering there's no attribution on that article, wonder if someone at MacRumors is a RedUser. Many of their articles have a "Thanks So-and-so For the tip!" at the end. That or, like in this case, a link in the article to where the author found the info.

Not that it really matters. Just got into the habit of reading MacRumors every day when I worked at the Apple Store a few years back. Interesting to see worlds collide.

Honestly.. I doubt I'd be buying another tower, unless it was at least 4x quicker than my laptop.

Well, they are. Even my current gen. 12-core MacPro 3.33 GHz with 96GB Ram, 512 SSD and 4 raid-disks and a GTX580 3GB is probably doing most of my heavy tasks at quadruple speeds compared to a Retina MacBook.

Nick, the email came from the editor pretty quickly after I posted the quote. He (Jordan) seems to have been reading this thread before I posted it.

they shoudl licence their os to a dedicated tower builder like boxx or hp.

LOL... Hell to the no! BOXX are just overpriced PCs built with off the shelf components. My condolences to those of you who bought them at inflated BOXX prices. HP... Yeah, my Z820 is powerful, but there's nothing innovative or forward-thinking about the design. It's not even a good design to accommodate the capabilities inside. Yawn...

Many of these latest rumors about the Mac Pro are making me nervous for the future of Apple "Pro" systems. On the other hand, it sounds like they're at least trying to innovate... Something all the other PC vendors are not doing. IMO, the PC industry is in a total funk right now.
