I have a two camera shoot coming up and we can only seem to get our hands on a single Epic. Does anyone know what it would be like if I mixed a Red One MX (4K 16x9) with an Epic (same resolution or 5K maybe?) There will obviously be a difference but is it enough to steer clear from the idea? It is a narrative short not a music video where I could merit it. The second camera (the MX) will be working less then half of the time (only during major dialogue scenes).

This will be fun to see the results of.

A great many posts here suggest that it is difficult to distinguish between the two cameras under normal conditions. Unfortunately, not having an Epic, I am not able to test this hypothesis directly.

I have done a bunch of this with my 2 R1s (MXs) and my Epic. It works well but post dose tell me that the epic is cleaner and has more detail even with the epic at the same res of 4Khd.

Cheers,
Rich

We have a RED ONE MX and a Epic M, we have shot several projects using both cameras together.
We shoot 29.97 2.4:1 5k on the Epic and 4.5k on the MX and deliver an edited master that is Prores 444, 1920 x 1080 (letterboxed)
Most of the time we are using RPP lens.
We have had no problems intercuting between the two cameras
If delivering 4k to film, maybe differences might be visible
But delivering HD video the two cut together great
The one down side on the set is the RED ONE MX only has Redcolor and Redgamma.
The Epic only has Redcolor2 and Redgamma2
The two cameras will not look close to the same on the location monitor
This can concern a producer who is not familiar with Red workflow
Once both are in RedcineX or Storm no problems get them to look the same

It's seemless... :)

Do it aaaaaaaaaaalll the time.

Lenses become the issue, not the camera.

Just make sure you don't have some 1964 Ziess prime or some Russian milk bottle on one camera and a ARRI Masterprime or RRP on another. Thats when you may have issues...

ITs almsot the same sensor, they match practically indistinguishably.

especailly if u use the same settings in REDcineX.

Does this apply to intercutting a red one mx and a scarlet? What are tips for using both cameras? settings?
