In Post Production, would there be any problems inter-cutting video from the RED-One in 2K with video from the Canon 7D ??

Your feedback is appreciated.

Thanks.

Search here and you'll find a lot on this subject, mostly about the technical quality of one vs the other- there are a lot of variables with respect to the footage on both cameras, so its not a clear cut yes or no.

But one thing to note: The 7D/5D does not produce footage with real timecode - timecode will start at zero for each clip. Beyond the qualitative issues, this has been a real challenge. We use Glue Tools or the like to embed new timecode, a PITA.

Red one in 2K mode has a smaller sensor area than 7D - so there's probably a difference in DOF (depending on the ISO:s > f-stops you use on the cameras). Detail wise, they might be reasonably close - 2K Red will not resolve to the max of 2K or 1080p, but the 7D should be still considerably less. As far as other image properties go, you should be able to match Red to 7D, as there's plenty of room to fiddle around - matching 7D to Red would be harder.

This said, personally i'd probably just shoot 4K with red, and destroy the image enough to match 7D.

Just FYI, if you ingest 7D footy via FCP, there's a free Canon plugin that will generate the timecode running through the takes in a magazine.

By the way, for mixing 7D and RED, I seldom see problems when the 7D is treated carefully on set, IMHO. I wouldn't shoot wide shots with lots of detail on 7D personally, but for close-up's it's pretty good. I'd suggest a good test before your shoot though.
