  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

It seams to me that alot of users building cheaper systems with the Intel® Core i7-3930K. Would be great to hear how it is working for you in premiere and Resolve. Im especially interested in workstations with a black magic card.
Are you working with 4k files in a 1080 timeline with 1/2 res? How does your Black magic output look? Is it good enough for client viewing?

Please ad your workstations specs and what performance youre getting. Its alot of threads about this but would be nice to collect the experience from users in one thread.

If you have measured your media drives, what sustained hardisk speed are your getting?

I'm running a Hackintosh with Core i7-3930K@4.2GHz, 32GB RAM, 2xGTX580 3GB and a Decklink HD Extreme 3D+ card. 25fps with 4K footage in Resolve at half-debayer good (16-bit) with however many nodes I've yet to need (haven't actually tried denoise yet). About 5-12fps when rendering out at full-debayer.

Pretty much the same performance in Premiere, 25fps 4K footage runs just fine at half-debayer. Runs After Effects nicely as well.

My media drives are external OWC drives connected through eSATA and they give ~250MB/s for both read and write. The drives only support eSATA at 300MB/s, but the motherboard used would support eSATA drives at 600MB/s. I've not yet found hard drive speed to be a bottleneck, though.

And outside of RED footage, I'm getting about 90fps when rendering out XDCAM EX footage from Resolve.
