Anyone know if there are any bonding/insurance options that would protect a client against lost media if the shipment was damaged during transit? This is assuming the following:

1. Media has been backed up to a second set of drives.
2. The drives being shipped were packaged properly with sufficient padding.
3. A value has been declared that goes beyond the value of the hard drives. In other words, a value that represents the actual costs to replace the media. So, if one were to go back to the second set after the first was damaged during shipment and discovered that for some reason the media was damaged on that set as well, there would be insurance to allow for re-shooting whatever was damaged.

Hopefully I'm making sense here.

Thanks!

How much data are we talking about here? Unless it's a really huge amount, it seems like it would probably be easier to just make a third copy, and only bother insuring the shipment for the cost of the hardware.

My thoughts exactly. In fact, that is what we're doing. In this instance, there is about 3TB of data. But they inquired about whether there were bonding/insurance options, and I just didn't know of any that could do it with data files. Film negative would be a whole other ballgame. But where we have multiple copies, I just don't see it being worthwhile, even if there is such an option available.

Truman Van Dyke, TODD A/O , tons of insurers out there for "negative insurance"
which applies to digital media too now, not just film negative, but its EXPENSIVE>

feature? Short? Music Video?

either way more backups are likely less expensive. but its a must on a feature imho

I had a drive go bad about 4 years ago, and my normal liability kicked in, and paid to recover the data. I had a marine policy written by Fireman's Fund at that time, but the same goes for Truman Van Dkye.
