So, I've been working without the focus hook for taping for awhile now, and I just got around to trying to install it...but its not immediately obvious where it is supposed to go. Am I supposed to remove one of the body screws from the camera body to install it?

I think this was just up yesterday or the day before, It's in the search engine function for sure.

you remove one of the body screws on the front plate. It can go in any of them but I like it on the lower left side next to the side record button.

Save yourself $45..the focus hook is not very useful, the hook is blocked by the matte box and is too small for most tapes. I suggest not using it as its pretty easy to make a measurement w/o it....or better yet take a look at MonsterCine's focus hook, it is larger and mounts higher on the camera to avoid the issue I just described.

If you are using ET's EVF mount though, even the Monster Cine focus hook may not work as it mounts in the same position.

Just an idea.. Figure out what the size and pitch of the screw is and buy a longer one. Then use a piece of tubing to go over the screw of the length to clear whatever obstructions and attach this to the body. Make sure you don't screw the threads into the body any deeper then the original screw did. You could also put a small flat washer between the head of the screw and the tubing to keep you tape measure from sliding off. You could also do away with the tubing all togeather and just use a screw and nut. The threads of the screw itself along with the screw head would keep the tape from sliding off. Cheap and dirty. lol

You would need a 2 foot screw to clear the matte box...the Monster Cine guys have the right idea, theirs mounts on top of the camera and folds away when not in use. If it wasnt for the EVF mount I would buy one.

This sounds like a job for Curt. Make a retractable tape hook and power it off of one of the spare channels on his lens controller!

We'll have to rectify that issue Greg. Monstercine Cyclops on ET. Sounds like a great idea! They're using the Hydra on their camera and we're using the ET 15mm dovetail plate on our Red so compatible Focus Hook synchronicity is inevitable...

Greg - our hook mounts on either side of the top mount so it shouldn't interfere with the ET EVF mount. True you can't lie it down against the body though.
