I was recenty reading an article in American Cinematographer, and it mentioned the Red One's high sensitivity to infrared light.

I was hoping someone could explain the effects of this a bit more. What are the effect it has on an image, when is it most likely to show up, and what exactly should I be looking for?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Normally it's not an issue. However, as you stack enough conventional ND filters (starting around 3 stops), the visible light gets reduced enough, that the infrared light (which is not effected by these filters), can become an issue - particularly on certain black fabrics - which start to appear purple or have a magenta cast.

An IR filter (or "hot mirror") will do the trick.

Do a search to find some good examples and frame grabs.
