Is there a thread with more info on the coming 4 x 1080 mode?

Does it target pixels on the chip so that the math to 1080 is easy?

Is it still Raw?

Is it just for quickie downconverts or could you finish in it? Is it just really about faster renders / downconverts and nothing else?

Can you still go back to 4k for a higher res master if required?

Is it inherently 16:9 or could you crop out 1.85 or 2.35?

Is it expected in B17?

What are the downsides of this format?

Any thoughts?

Cheers,
Chris

Yes

Yes

Its main application is finishing, at 1920 x 1080 resolution i.e for TV use, but you still have other post production options

Can you still go back to 4k for a higher res master if required?
Well its 3.8K, so yes

Is it inherently 16:9 or could you crop out 1.85 or 2.35?
Yes, and yes

Is it expected in B17?
Yes, its a feature of Build 17

What are the downsides of this format?
Its not quite as wide as full 4K

Hi Stuart,

Thanks for the quick response.

So just to verify the "not quite as wide" issue.

The FOV of an 18mm lens would be narrower, say 20mm-ish or whatnot?

Cheers,
Chris

So with the 1080, is the 4 - 1 downconvert clean and easy regardless of which flavour of 1080 you got to? And also regardless of which Red app you use to process?

I'm hoping to go to Apple ProRes HQ.

Thanks for the info.

Cheers,
Chris
