INFO FROM MY BOMBSQUAD REP ON WEAPON UPGRADE

Jarred can you extend the NAB offer until we see this chart? would help alot to make the decision... we are not all huge rental houses :)

I really hope they listen to this.
I haven't even heard from my rep during NAB so getting an order through isn't possible wheter I decide to go for it or not.
In fact just getting the dragon order completed (which I asked for early april) took way too long to process. Right now, it's just too much confusion and tight deadlines even the reps can't live up to.

Good to see Jarred chipping in with a promise to clarify things though.

-$5,000.00 USD (RED Accessory credit. Available for use toward RED Accessories, or to reduce overall price of upgrade)
$7,000.00 USD (Due at time of upgrade)

This goes against info that has been posted here. My understanding is the $5000 "Accessory credit" is just that, credit towards accessories, NOT to be used as a discount on the Brain. Makes a huge difference!

Maybe part of confusion is that the Weapon is not offered as brain only. The accessory credit applies to the camera as offered, which is with a bunch of extras. It would be interesting to see how the math plays if the brain was offered on its own. The only accessories I think you 100% need are the lemo adapter to attach an existing touch screen, and a battery attachment of some kind for whatever flavor of battery you use.

Man I'm gonna be so pissed if I miss out on an extra discount for not putting down a deposit now. From what I hear as a dragon owner I have no discounts LIMITED to NAB, but now I'm not so sure, someone was talking about an ADDITIINAL $5k on top of the $5k accessory credit which IS limited to NAB. Need Clarity, talk to us like we are 5 please.

Thanks Scott. When you say "that's the NAB special"... I do still wonder if this offer has a time limit? Will this offer still exist in 6 months I wonder?

That is how it works. The $5000 accessory credit is for all of you that have Dragons before NAB and it is good to use until you are ready to upgrade to Weapon.. whenever that may be. That is one of the reasons why it was " worth it " to upgrade before NAB.

The $5000 accessory credit that is tied to NAB week is just for the new Weapon orders ( not upgrades ) .

I think this lifts off the pressure value for current Dragon owners

It would be great to know whether there's any transfer value of Red Armor we paid for, especially for Red Armor that was paid for very recently.

If you have a RED ARMOR for DRAGON that has not already started (ie, you are still under the original warranty when you send in your camera for upgrade), your RED ARMOR will transfer over to your upgraded WEAPON at no additional cost.

Hey guys let us put together a little chart with everything tomorrow.. I think a visual map on how everything works is going to be the best way to clarify things for alot of people.

It's not your fault for being confused, there are so many different upgrade paths from so many different starting points and so many time sensitive discounts that it is very easy to get lost.

Yes please. I think there's still too much confusion about this $5k upgrade by the end of today. This is the message I received from RED last night:

The reason we package the WEAPON upgrade is because the camera body is smaller than the current design, this means new modules. You’re not just getting a brain with this upgrade, you’re getting several modules with the WEAPON to help bring it up to spec. If RED just offered Brain upgrades you would still need to purchase several additional modules to get the camera up to spec. The ease with SCARLET-to-EPIC or EPIC-to-DRAGON was that the bodies were the same and you could use all of your modules you had previously. Unfortunately with devolving new technologies comes new designs, and this where the additional cost come into play. We are providing as many credits and discounts as possible to make the transition easier.

· Additional NAB $5,000 credit
· REDMAG-to-MINIMAG Trade-In program
· Pre-NAB DRAGON ownership credit
· Base DRAGON credit

Also, the deposit isn’t due by Thursday, we just require that the order be placed. You then have 10 business days (2 weeks) to pay the deposit to keep your spot and receive the $5,000 accessory credit.

It still very much looks like an order needs to placed by end of day to get full advantage of any NAB bonuses, at least from how its being explained to me here.

We are giving you $5000+ worth of accessories at no charge (ie, same cost of brain) since you are upgrading and we want you to have the bits coming with the WEAPON brain to flesh out a working package with your existing DSMC accessories. This is a special bundle for upgraders. Brain only would be the same price, so.... We assumed everyone would want the free stuff

First, if you are upgrading, there is no rush to place your pre-order - from a financial standpoint. Let me start from the top:

If you were DRAGON pre-NAB, you get an extra $2500 of trade in credit. For example, EPIC-M gets $17,500 back if owned before NAB. $15,000 if after.

Your upgrade bundle you are pre-ordering includes $5000+ of WEAPON specific accessories that you are getting AT THE SAME PRICE as a new WEAPON camera brain. For example, a new WEAPON MG brain (with media bay) is $34,500. Your upgrade bundle includes the brain (with media bay) PLUS top handle, SIDEKICK, WEAPON REDVOLT XL module, a Lemo adaptor, a BASE EXPANDER, and a case - and that is $34,500 as well.

You pay your $5000 deposit for this upgrade bundle....

When your upgrade number comes up in queue, we will email you to notify you. You will then pay the balance due for your bundle and send in your existing SCARLET/EPIC DRAGON to RED. You will include the Side SSD Module and a mount. If you own a PL mount, we ask that is the mount you send in.

We will then send you back your bundle with your existing mount back. Why do we ask for PL? Because some of the early gen ones are not compatible with WEAPON. We will check yours. If compatible, we will send back to you. If not, we will replace. For free.

After your bundle is invoiced and sent back to you, we will automatically apply a $5000 credit on your account for you to use on whatever accessories you'd like. Whenever you like, no expiration date.

I'm so damn confused. When I spoke to my red a few days ago (who seemed clueless, to be curt) she said that the upgrade would cost a total of 19,000 dollars and that I only had until today to get the 5,000 in store credit. She also did not mention the added accessories.

So if I turn in my Dragon brain alone, not with all the extra accessories that I could potentially sell to Epic owners, I can then get the Weapon upgrade with these added accessories for 12,000 dollars total?

And does anyone have an estimate on how much I will additionally have to spend? New minimags? Do I need a new LCD?

Thanks for your help, guys. I wish this was all clearer, especially with a supposed deadline of today...

Thanks for the info Brent. Though I have hit a bit of a roadblock with audio. Right now with Dragon I can use a Box A to run a Sennheiser 416 right into Dragon. I am hearing Weapon with Base Expander does not have the capacity to do this. Thereby for me rendering that accessory and the Package not ready for prime time. So can we confirm if that info is correct - OR - as second option. The package can be amended to swap in the RedVolt expander instead with the XLR and phantom power. Obviously realizing this is going to cost 2200 more that the current package..... Lemme know. And yes the free stuff is much appreciated:)

This is a very helpful post. Thanks Brent!

Frank, there is no deadline, as I stated, when it comes to accessory credits and such. The only "penalty" for waiting is you are farther back in line.

And, as Jarred stated in another thread, we made gametime decisions the night before NAB. The plan was originally to have the $5000 accessory credit be only for ALL orders placed at NAB. But Jarred decided to take care of upgraders even more by extending beyond NAB. Hence, reps going by original plan until it changed. And, I am hoping no one is objecting to the end result of more time to upgrade and getting that credit : )

Yes, in my post above - and on RED.com - it states what you have to send in - brain, Side SSD Module. All your other gear, do with as you please.

We are including a Lemo adaptor so you can use your existing displays with their Lemo cables. You do have to use MINI-MAGS on WEAPON, there is no 1.8" REDMAG option.

As to what you want to spend beyond what is in the bundle, it is up to you. The bundle specifically includes WEAPON-specific gear that can be supplamented with your existing accressories to make a fully working package out of the box.

Dude, I think all the variables are confusing enough for both you guys and RED, let's not another wrinkle : )

The upgrade package is intended as I stated to Frank above. When combined with your existing gear, it gives you a working package out of the box. It does not mean it meets every specific need for every RED shooter. That is why we have modules to customize plus are giving you a $5000 credit to do with as you please. And that $5000 easily covers the REDVOLT Expander.

Brent. I don't need more wrinkles believe me. I guess I just mistakenly figured the basic package would at least be audio/video ready. Which is perhaps my mistake for not reading the fine print. I can certainly take this discussion to offline with my Rep etc... But to me it feels like the base expander will be a paperweight that ate 1750 of my accessory allowance. And so for a doc person like me the true cost to own becomes 34,500 less trade ins plus 3950. I am not sure right now that many people are even thinking about audio but eventually the penny will drop.

Brent, how about Scarlet Dragon owners (pre-NAB) who take the recently announced, temporary upgrade path Epic-X Dragon?

Would we fall into the pre-NAB Epic-X Dragon to Weapon trade-in credit of $15,500 (+ $5,000 accessory credit) or the post-NAB trade-in credit of $13,000 (+ $5,000 accessory credit)?

Tarquin, you get the $1750 Base Expander for free. There are audio/video ports on there. If they don't work for you, you can use as a paper weight and then you have that credit to address.

Look at the I/Os on the EPIC/SCARLET brain you will be sending in. Look at the Base Expander ports you are getting. Looks pretty comperable to me...

Just surprises me that we allow upgrades - and then give you free stuff as part of the upgrade bundle - plus toss in an accessory credit - yet it still leaves people underwhelmed. I need to take a break from REDUSER and go back out to our booth....

Dude. I hear you. I think you are feeling that I am an ingrate in the face of all this generosity I am getting. For that I apologize. I am generally a very happy and grateful person. What you are saying then to be clear, is that I can in fact use the mic set up I am currently using on my current Epic Dragon (Sennheiser 416 with BoxA input into the mini port) with the base expander as the inputs look the same to you and the camera in fact has phantom power to that port. So I would be able to take the Weapon Mg upgrade with absolute reassurance and confidence then.
