Inexpensive shotgun mic mount for DSMC

Saw a few posts about this, a just wanted to share my solution for mounting a shotgun mic on a DSMC cam.

Major parts are a Rode shock mount ($50 - Got mine at Samys years ago - LINK) and a Noga Cinearm (Link)

A $9 XLR to Mini adapter from OPC Electronics in LA:

And a $1 3.5mm stereo cable

The cheap 3.5mm cable is the weakest link, and if I end up using this setup I'll probably get something more sturdy. But if you already own a Cinearm and a shock mount, it's about $190 cheaper than an A-Box and accomplishes the exact same thing.

Should be good quality scratch audio until I get my button mic in the mail.

And if you want to get wacky, the mic holder from an HVX200 screws on to the body of the scarlet perfectly.

What kind of shotgun mic are you planning to use? Most of them require phantom power which is currently disabled on EPIC and Scarlet-X.

I was thinking of mounting a RØDE shock mount to my Scarlet using a cold shoe adaptor from Wooden Camera. Not much point unless Phantom is enabled soon, though.

I have a basic sennheiser me66 with the power module. No need for phantom power. Pretty average mic, though.

Still, an average mic which will work is better than a phantom only mic which won't!

The Rode NTG-2 has a slot for batteries or phantom power. It's a perfect scratch microphone and we have one mounted on our RED One for reference audio at almost all times.

Yeah, I was tossing up between getting an NTG-2 or an AT 4053b hypercardiod first and I decided on the hyper because it would be better indoors. Turns out the NTG-2 would have been far more useful for scratch audio...

Actually, Andrew, for scratch audio any microphone will do. You'll be just fine with the AT. As it happens, on rare occasions, we have actually been close enough to our talent to use the NTG-2 for our primary audio in some locations.

Yes, the only issue is that the AT requires phantom and my Scarlet can't provide it (yet...). I am just using a dynamic vocal mic for scratch at the moment but it's not easily mountable to the camera body. If RED would enable phantom power I would be super happy!
