Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull COUNTDOWN

Wisdom

Wisdom

Watching Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was like finally nailing the Prom Queen and realizing that the quiet Brunette that sat behind you in History class was the one that got away.

I'm a bit disappointed that there is no 2k digital version of the movie.

I saw it yesterday in 2K and I enjoyed it a lot: it was a really fun movie, in every sense of the word. The focus puller nailed almost every shot, just like Iron Man. If Prince Caspian is the same, that will be three for three.

How do they handle a scope movie on digital projection? was blown up and masked? letterboxed?

Their Christie 2K projectors are 16:9 native, but they use 1.25X anamorphic lenses to avoid the loss of resolution from letterboxing and still get a 2.35 image.

Most digital cinema projectors don't bother with special anamorphic lenses anymore, not since they phased out the 1.2K DLP projectors -- scope movies just use few pixels vertically. If you look here:

http://www.dcimovies.com/DCIDigitalCinemaSystemSpecv1_2.pdf

You'll see that most 2K projectors are using:
2048 x 858 for 2.39
1998 x 1080 for 1.85

With spherical projector lenses.

ie- 30% CG and the rest are real stunt.

A few years ago I was laughing at spielberg`s (lucas`) remark that he wouldn`t use cgi on this movie - yes of course the two biggest (and this is not meant positively) cgi-junkies can restrain themselves from this sort of overkill...
btw, this movie`s trailer looked so boring I`m gonna wait till it`s out on free tv...not worth wasting money...
