  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Indiana Jones 4K

Yep, saw the jaggies/pixels which was odd and since I didn't know the theater was digital until that point, it was the give away. I thought the movie was probably not shot digitally, so at what point did the titles get inserted and at what point would they determine the resolution needed for the graphics, depending on where it was going to be projected. Again, just curious.
When you do credits in 2K you have to strike a balance between sharpness and jaggies. You want it pin sharp? There will be jaggies. You wan't no jaggies at all and fully antialiased? It will be (somewhat) soft looking. You want pin sharp and no jaggies? You need real 4K and beyond.
Movie was shot on film. Credits are added digitally on the DI.

It would be interesting to know how that decision is made and by whom. Case in point, also saw Narnia at the same 4K cineplex and its graphics were tack sharp and very stunning. A clear difference and a real treat for the eyes.

have seen it yesterday.

what´s up with spielberg?? the first half is good, with the charme of the first movies, but the second half is so boring, and the CGI´s ...
the ending of cate blanchet is something between - we had no ideas or no money - really the worst i can imagine.
the screenplay is weak, shame on this writer for all time.

the best example again - not the big money makes the good movies, it is creativity and storytelling. both are gone in this indy4.

i am saying this as one of the biggest spielberg fans in the world, and i am not happy about this.

It's not Spielberg's fault, IMHO, but he too didn't give 100 % of his talent to the movie.

It's the script and the producer that promoted it.

CGI gophers?

Indy surviving a nuclear blast?

The monkey scene?

Aliens?

... WTF?!

Nevertheless, the movie is OK for one-time viewing... but not more.

...

I read somewhere that, after Raiders, Spielberg didn't feel artistically compelled to make any other Indy movies,.. which explains a lot.

I think that Spielberg's directing skill is intact, but it seems that his flair for good scripts is deceiving him.

Or he is simply too soft on his friends in cases where they're obviously making mistakes.

All of his latest movies (Munich, War of the Worlds) were brilliantly directed, but the scripts had major flaws, especially WOTW.

It seems that Spielberg directed Indy4 on lower gear, which is not acceptable for an artist of his stature.

I hope he has better luck with scripts [and producers] in the future.

good points.
the first half has some great spielberg-moments (harley davidson chase is very well done), but 2nd half is a cold and uninspired experience. even the CGI is bad.

kaminski did some nice light work (i loved the artificial light at the beginning! pure 50´s cinema stuff) but in the temples it is a boring light and (expensive) set design.

i personally like the idea of the alien theory, but the alien looked ridiculous again (as in the movie before) and it was poor light effects on cate blanchett, really poor. i didn´t get the story either... characters were just poor.

hopening for a new JAWS or DUEL from him...

Yeah, the mystery wasn't well-built in this movie, unlike Raiders and Crusade, where the "power of God or something" isn't really explained, so the mystery survives after the end...

Here we have cheesy aliens, parallel dimensions... I couldn't feel the mystery, it was all too clear...

It was hilarious how the John Hurt character was pretty much mute and brainless throughout the movie, but just before the end he regained his mind to explain the (mainstream) audience what this is all about...

And Indy tells him:

"Welcome back".

LOL.

Ok, the Indy filmmakers are self-ironic, but... it didn't work well, IMO.

If they had cut the John Hurt explanatory lines at the end, maybe the mysterious feeling would have survived.

Aliens from another dimension?!

That's weird, aliens usually come from outer space.

Adding "another dimension" to the entire "outer space" concept is a bit confusing.

But, a fun movie overall, closer to Temple of Doom in quality.
