  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I used Redrushes to transcode rushes for DVPal (720x576) offline a month ago no problem– second part of the job came back this week and I’ve got a quality problem.

The current clips have a wavy interference across them when played in FCP. They play fine in Quicktime.

Last months batch are still processing fine.

I upgraded to Build 18 in the mean time and just now updated RED Alert but the problem remains.

I haven't used REDRushes to do any other work since upgrading to B18.

Be grateful to anyone who might know a workaround or have some insight.

Can you post a still or short DV clip somewhere I can see it? It's hard to guess without looking at the artefact.

One possibility though might be the fact that FCP assumes that clips of standard video resolution and frame rate are interlaced. It therefore only shows one field on playback on the Mac screen. If you tell FCP that the clips have a field dominance of 'none', and set your time line the same, you will be working with progressive clips as progressive and they will look better. You do need to be careful with this though. If you get things wrong, you can end up de-interlacing your material, and so halving the vertical resolution.

I'm not a programmer, but I think it may be possible to add flags to Quicktime clips to indicate that they are progressive, so FCP automatically deals with them correctly. Would be nice if REDLine did this, but I don't think it does.

Hi Billy

I think you may have edited out the most important info in your post - your new clips are 25 fps and the old ones are 24 - correct? God bless RSS readers, as mine still has your original one.

Are you trying to drop the 25 fps footage into the 24 fps timeline?
