Hi There...When I tried to transcode Red clips to Pro Res via log and transfer window, I often get incomplete clips in the browser. Then I try to transcode again, the incomplete clip transcodes fine. But I loose great deal of time when I have to do it. Why is this happening. Is there anything I could possibly do to fix this issue?. Thanks.

I've had lots of incomplete Log and transfers through FCP 7. There seems to be bugs in the FCP software. If you really need to use the Log and Transfer don't be running or doing anything else on the computer. Use other programs like Red Rushes, RedcineX, clipfinder ext... to do transfers, that seemed to solve all my incomplete transfers.

I think you may wish to post more information as well as nominclature....

I have been IMPORTING via log and transfer last few days and have not experienced any problems. BUT, I also had to setup an easy setup for importing red files---have you done this within FCP under file: audio/video settings? Then, once done, you then need to choose under (i think preferances within the Log and transfer window) red native. From that point, i have not had any difficulties importing red native files---if that is what you are trying to do....Then once setup, you can do a transcode out to something in prores or whatever.

Not sure by your post if that is what you are trying to do??

Red has a pretty good white paper on the FCP workflow and on importing native red files.....

Once done, you have to view under UNLIMITED RT.....and you get the yellow bar above the files on the timeline. If you view in SAFE RT you get a red bar above the files w/in the timeline and they show as unrendered.

This the same area you are trying to get worked out or the actual transcoding from this point?

BTW, I forgot to mention the comp ingested overnight and nothing else was going on during that time, so the theory of not doing anything else while it is being captured because that causes it, is wrong...

I've been having the exact same problem over the last year on two features.

Using Log & Transfer in FCP 7 to transcode clips to ProRes 422, typically overnight. Often get incomplete clips. Sometimes it takes a few tries of transcoding again but in the end it's always fixable, just annoying as it's time consuming and hard to notice that the clips are incomplete right away without double checking that first.

Any ideas anyone? I figure this could be a FCP bug or a process interrupts it, such as the screen saver coming on, FCP autosaving, etc.

Hi guys.

How incomplete are the clips? Is there a typical fraction of the clip that gets processed, or does it vary wildly?

Any extra info or pattern you could discern would be helpful in troubleshooting this.

Thanks!
