While we all wait eagerly for the arrival of Epic and Scarlet, let’s not lose sight of the fact that Jim and his hard working team have already delivered two very capable cameras – the Red One and the Red M-X. Both cameras are battle tested and deliver stunning 4k images …. these cameras combined with Graeme’s excellent color science and FLUT controls really allow filmmakers to capture and deliver great looking movies.

We’ve had the pleasure of working with a wide range of RED filmmakers over the last few months …. all of them using the Red One and Red M-X to bring their unique visions to the silver screen. To give you an idea of the diversity of projects now being shot on the existing Red cameras, take a look at the following list:

CHERRY – a coming of age movie about a freshman who finds himself emotionally involved with an older mature student and her 14 year old daughter!

THE GENESIS CODE – a Christian faith-based movie exploring both the Biblical aspects of creation and the Darwinian explanation – beautifully shot by an ASC DP with great VFXs.

HAMILL - a true story based on the life of deaf UFC fighter Matt Hamill, HAMILL tells the story of what it takes to be a champion, on and off the mat.

SPORK - a film about a frizzy-haired, pink-cheeked hermaphrodite named Spork who is trying to navigate her/his way through the corridors of junior high.

LOSING CONTROL – about a charmingly neurotic scientist and her determination to discover if her boyfriend is “the one”. … the director, Valerie Wiess has a Ph.D in biophysics from Harvard University!

LAST WILL - a beautiful young woman Hayden is framed for the murder of her wealthy husband Frank. Written and produced by two working lawyers and based on a true story.

AMERICAN ANIMAL – a dark comedy about a dying young man.

CIRCLE OF EIGHT – a Paramount Digital Entertainment production about a supernatural hotel and the spooky inhabitants on the eighth floor.

The point being that a ton of independent movies are being shot on the R1 and R-MX and will be for a while to come … these two cameras have become the workhorses of the indie world …. as well as many high end productions!

So if you have a tight script, a talented cast, some budget and the burning desire to tell your story, rent or buy a Red One or Red M-X now and get out there and shoot your movie. Whatever your requirements we have a wide range of services that can help you plan, shoot and finish your RED movie to the highest standards. If you need any help planning your production and post workflow come and talk to us and we’ll help you every step of the way.

Epic and Scarlet will soon be with us … in the meantime, shoot and enjoy the Red One and Red M-X … these are great cameras.

Cheers,
Neil

P.S Attached are some screen grabs from some of the movies ...

Things just got better ...

Things just got better ...

We discovered how to get more out of the M-X sensor while developing EPIC. We also discovered those improvements could be passed down to the RED ONE. Instead of saving it just for the new cameras like most companies would, we decided to share the improvements with our RED ONE owners.

Jim

Just when you thought things couldn't get better with the Red One and Red M-X, Jim and Graeme throw in this tasty morsel for free - amazing.

Epic and Scarlet will undoubtedly take RED filmmaking up to the next level, but in the meantime Red One and Red M-X continue to deliver beautiful imagery here and now and into the future.

So if you have a project that's ready to shoot or post come and talk to us about it .. we're Red savvy and Indie friendly and will help you get the most out of your RAW files.

Cheers,
Neil

If you build it - they will shoot it ...

That is quite an interesting mix of projects you are working on.

Thanks Curran .... yes, the range of projects shot on the Red One and Red M-X that we've worked on over the last few months has been staggering .... which is why I wanted to remind everyone how great these cameras are for indie filmmaking.

We started working with RED way back in the summer of 2006 (I still have one of the 76mg TIFFS of the Oakley watch somewhere on one of my machines) and had the good fortune to grade one of the prototype M-X cameras last December (thanks Jarred) ... we show the color corrected footage to a packed room of ASC DPs .... everyone was impressed how much better the M-X sensor and new color science was ... more DR, less noise, nicer skins tones ... and of course seeing the Red 4k footage projected on the 4k projector at the two RED Days was truly inspiring. With the continual improvements that Jim and his hard working team keep bringing to the table we really have seen these two cameras evolve into something very useful for independent filmmakers ... its great to know that the Finchers and Abrams of this world are using the REDs to shoot their studio movies, but its also good to know that indie filmmakers of all sizes and budgets can take the same tools and shoot their own movies to the same high standards.

RED has come a long way in four years ... amazing times for RED filmmakers every where.
