We are on location shooting a feature film so communication is tough.

We are backing up on OWC Mercury Elite Pro Hard drives.

1 of our 2 TB hard drives will not show up.
It once worked we began to download to it but one day poof never came up.
We have tried various ports various computers just about everything we could think of.
It will not show up in disk utility, nor in more info in about this mac.

I have called OWC and they do not answer 25 minutes of holding on the phone and i could not hold any longer.

Multiple messages to them via email and live chat and no answer.

So im running out of options.

any ideas anybody?
thanks.

iMac 24inch, FW 800 and FW 400 either dont work.
and i have attempted on a laptop also.
into 2tb drive drive powered by its power supply.
any other info i can give you?

Thanks JAADGY

Ok, I spoke with OWC tech support and he says you should check disk utility and check if it's recognizing the drive-if it is, that's where it will show for sure. Another suggestion(and probably the best) is to try testing a different cable and/or port connections. Good luck.

Edit: that sounds like a cable problem to me.

Jaadgy been there done that.
No luck no show up in disk utility.
whats the next thing i should do.

listen see if you can get them to call me its very expensive for me to call them and just hold for half an hour, how da heck did you get them on the phone so fast?
but if they can my number directly is
805 822 9870
im hurting for real results.

thanks DUDE your rockin it.

muchicimas gracias por la informacion
voy a llama a mi amigo para que cheque la pagina y encuentre el problema

buena suerte
y gracias.

gime money LOL

Luis did you really try different cables? Try a third one and see-you never know if bad luck has it that 2 cables are bad. At any rate, just to see if something happens, download this and see-you never know: http://eshop.macsales.com/Reviews/Framework.cfm?page=/icons/icons.html

*Intenta eso a ver si te da algún resultado. Sólo haz clic en el Icon que dice "OWC Mercury Elite Pro RAID Rack-Mount" a ver que sucede.

different cables, yes
3rd one yes
these cables work fine on our other 3 drives.

I made a mistake for not having diskwarrior out here.

=(

Disk warrior wouldn't help...

Your solution lies in taking the drive apart... The enclosure has failed, not the drive... Unless you know its been dropped and makes screaming noises when you plug it in to the computer

The enclosure probably has kicked the bucket and no matter how many cables you try it wont work, Ive had this happen multiple times and there is only 6 screws in an OWC mercury enclosure. I take them apart weekly to daily and put different drives in them.

You need to try putting it INSIDE a MacPro, or buy a USB to SATA adapter. If the drive is not totally killed then it will show up.

9/10 external drive failures are directly related to the enclosure its in... Not the drive

Or better yet, take BOTH enclosures apart, and put the (bad) drive into the other (good) enclosure and this will test if its the drive or the enclosure. This will not hurt you data in anyway at all,

Actually If warranty is a question, ask yourself if a $300 drive is worth losing a day of shooting costing 10-20 times as much?

Where in Mexico are you? Maybe we can help, we are located in Mexico City.

you made a mistake by not listening to me and using gtech drives, i told ed and i told you. i did not tell you that because i have stock in gtech, i told you it because of 25 years of experience with computers, 20 years of experience with external drives, 6 years of experience with gtech and 8 months as a red owner and operator.

they are a bit more money, but they are worth it, sorry i do no have a solution for you. other than, believe it or not, give the drive a little love tap as you would a pinball machine, not enough to "tilt it", but enough to maybe jog drive arm to engage.

good luck...

We are in Mexico City and offer our help. Let me know if you need an enclosure to test the drive or an additional drive to continue shooting.

PM me if you're interested.

Luis Bustamante is THE MAN. Seriously.
