In layman's terms

How do I edit this footage on a macbook pro... is it even possible... say I want to shoot a film capture it and then edit it on a macbook pro in some far corner of the world before coming back to civilization and finishing the project on a more powerful desktop... how could I shoot the film, capture the footage and edit the movie... I know almost nothing about the red post workflow and that is because I don't really understand a lot of the language... is there some kind soul willing to describe simply and plainly the steps necessary to do what I've described?
