  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IMS news please

I do have Hasselblad 80mm f/2.8 Zeiss Planar T* CFE lens using IMS for RED.

Excellent lens, no issues on RED, sharp and nice pictures.

Hi,

An 80mm F2.8 prime does not sound that useful, there are many 35mm still lenses that would be more useful IMHO.

I know what you mean but only Leica Summilux-R 80mm f/1.4 or older Zeiss C/Y 85mm f/1.4 would be better.

Nikon in the same league at 85 mm/f/1.4 is OK too but its focus throw is too small and gentle for any cine use.

At the end is the best older Canon FD 85 mm f/1.2 much better than EF version.

Now that RED will have an own IMS for EPIC an Scarlet, let me ask you Jarred, will this RED Canon/Nikon/PL mount be also available for the R1? And if so, why not produce it quid soon… ;-)

I had a short email conversation with P+S.

Their point is that RED took their design and the talks have stopped. They're quite pissed.

IMS is not going to void the warranty, that's what they're saying because you don't need to cap any cables.

Can't really see why P&S should be pissed, the Red concept is nothing like the IMS. The only vague similarity is the principal of being able to use different lens mounts on a single camera.
P&S didn't come up with that concept.
It really doesn't matter what P&S say about the warranty, that's Red's call and they've made their position very clear.
Anyway the new mounts don't affect the Red One,P&S should just get on with designing a version of the IMS which satisfies Red's warranty requirements,it must still be worth their while, after all there are still going to be over 5000 Red Ones out there.

XiaoSu, I do not know who you spoke to at P+S, but I heard different things. P+S has previously made it pretty clear that the current IMS does void the warranty. More importantly, so has RED.

RED has previously stated that they will resume/start talks with P+S early next year.

Let's not jump to conclusions.

Recap of the current situation:
The only shipping, warranty-keeping, non-PL solution for the R1 is the RED/Underdahl Nikon mount.
The only warranty-keeping, Canon solution is the Birger Canon mount. Not shipping at the moment. A very few people have received theirs. In the nearer future Andy Lesniak might be entering the race with his own Canon EOS mount, which is awaiting RED certification.
The only shipping, but warranty-voiding, Canon solution is the IMS with Canon mount.

I am trying to keep this sticky updated: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20689

Id like to know too its important for our buisiness.

thanks Red and P&S

Martin,

if I would be director of this film I would shoot that using Leica Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 Asph lens,

then a litlle bit with MPs on PL mount and finish with some Panavision Primo L Anamorphics on PV mount...

and all that with my RED1.

Hi Sanjin

I once very crudely looked at the T stop a leica lens against its F-stop. I felt f2.8 should be corrected to T3.1ish. I'd be interested in what the actual T stop of the Noctilux is when at f0.95. You could test for us with your IMS mount, a grey card and trusted cine lens... (I'd guess between T1 and T1.2)

Anyone else interested?

regards

Hi Michael,

the Leica Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 Asph lens that I was testing on R1 was a demo lens.

It had a problem with back focus at longer distances.

I could not get to focus to infinity on the street.

You could see at my test here when I left outside to shoot at available light outdoor.

Hope Leica will fix it.

Availability Feb 2009, more April-May.

So no any test till Spring 2009.

Someone could write a very good thriller screenplay or a story about all that warranty issue

where is now the fact that I lost (free) upgrade to the new audio board, 16 MB CF card and Epic-X.

But I survived in that thriller and found out to deal with audio using MircoTrack II phantom power to mic.

16 MB CF cards are OK but too expensive.

I know that some friends of mine R1 owners bought tons of cheap 8 GB Lexar cards.

Epic-X trade is nice but I keep R1 for myself because it has already a lot of FF35 glass in stock.

Actually my R1 is fully FF35 ready according to the mount and lenses I owe.

It needs FF35 sensor ONLY!?

Now I keep cool and dissent and would try to pay for my all future R1 upgrades.

My R1 remains ROCK steady and stabile all the time.

Game over.
