  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IMS news please

Fist IMS has to be approved by RED - but nothing wrong with the fact that Erik takes a look even now on the IMS…

Is it technical thinkable that Erik can adopt his mount to the IMS? My guess is Yes , I’m quid sure that he will be able to do this… needs an other modified birger SMART LENS MOUNT ADAPTER so…

I do. Birger + IMS would/will put P+S on my wire transfer's list.

Agreed! It would be all I'm looking for.

True... But I don't expect that much.

If P&S succeed to adapt their mount not to void warranty and all aftersales service from RED it will be far enough!

I hope P&S will post here soon...

Hi guys, sorry for being late at this party.
Great reading, smart projects...
I'm just a little disappointed about the whole "no warranty=no Epic/sensors upgrade deal".
Thanks Sanjin for your effort (as usual).

Let's wait the P/S guys...

I truly am surprised buy the surprise people have about the voided warranty... did anyone REALLY think that we would accept cameras back with voided warranties?

Maybe someone can help me understand?

Jarred,

I can't really help here. RED has every right to decide if aftermarket equipment voids their warranty. But the above does bring up a slightly off-topic question:

Does an expired warranty affect being able to upgrade to an Epic? I'll be right on the cusp next spring. I'm guessing that if my warranty has expired, I can still upgrade. But if I attach an aftermarket item that would have voided my warranty - even AFTER my warranty expires - I won't be able to upgrade to an Epic. So it's not just about a voided warranty. It also covers an expired warranty situation as well. Is that right? If not, those who's warranties will expire before the Epic exists will lose out on the upgrade offer which I'm guessing is not the case.

Thanks - Mike.

voided warranty and expired warranties are two different things... we will gladly accept expired warranty cameras, because the physical state of the camera hasn't been modified.

Great. That's what I thought from everything I've read up to now. I just wanted to be clear in my own mind. Thanks Jarred.

Jarred,

It all seems logical.
Voided warranty = No aftersales service from RED.

Thing is RED beeing so much different from other companies in every way, I didn't know what to think about it. Now I know!
I just had to read it somewhere.

I don't think I'm the only one... I don't know if Alesniak and those who are about to buy his mount have figure that they might loose aftersales service. Maybe someone from RED should tell them...

Sorry if I misunderstood Jarred.

We need to stop going in circles here.

Everyone - the current IMS voids the warranty and you won't get warranty or upgrades because of it.

We need to focus our energy on P&S to modify their design and work with RED to come up with an IMS that RED can bless.

*PLEASE* let's not go in circles over whether the current situation is fair.

It is!

Jarred has made it abundantly clear that the design does not meet RED's criteria and installing it voids the warranty. No further discussion necessary.

Again, let's pressure P&S to finish the job and release a new version of the IMS that RED is happy with.

Until then, we're just wasting Jarred's time making him repeat himself again and again. I don't want to frustrate RED, I want P&S to get the IMS right.

Totally agree!

I love the IMS, but I think I am going to love the EPIC more.

Hi Jarred,

Many cameras will be out of warranty by the time they can upgrade to EPIC, so thats why people are surprised.

Jim has stated that you don't need to be the original owner to upgrade, selling the camera also voids the warranty, am I missing something?

This is what I got,

"Dear Shawn,

RED dislikes the IMS for now.
We do not know the reason, but OK.

Sorry, for having no better news about a helpful tool.

Have a nice day.

The bottom line is that both companies now feel any sort of "give in" would be a compromise. Neither one really needs each other to be financial prosperous.

This must be clarified. I think it's just a misunderstanding. A matter of hermeneutics, mere interpretation. Jarred is the meaning of the word ' cool ' in person.
