  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IMS news please

i could post.. RED + IMS = WARRANTY

i did not though.. seems obvious it's more an IMS issue than jarred's.. i can't be wrong here.

At the moment for me its not the point.
Most important is to have claer information, easy to find without browsing through 100 of pages.
Remenber the whole consequences only come up the last several days.
A sticky, I think, is a fine methode.
Getting aprovel for IMS in the next step however it may happen or not.

I would never say "don't buy a IMS mount" because I would have no authority in doing so.... that is not my decision to make. The only thing I can tell you is if you do something it will void your warranty, and the rest is up to you.

With all this pressure you guys are making.. it might make P+S re-think it's non compliance decision... at which point this issue would go away.

Im not trying to be the bad guy here...

Absolutely not! We're all pointing at P&S here, not RED.

What you could let us know is if there is any hope that they might be able to improve the design where it could be approved.

If yes, we'll push them hard. If no, we'll move on! :)

Totally agree,it's up to them, nobody is going to cancel or not buy a Red One because they can't use the IMS. P&S are the losers here. Sounds as if all the lights are on but there's nobody at home.

Who is right and who is wrong?

Birger EF mount on RED, to install it you have to remove RED PL mount, for that step "the Birger mount now is approved by RED".

IMS_RED_Hasselblad80mm.jpg

IMS for RED mount, to install it you have to remove RED PL mount, for that step P+S Technik's "IMS for RED" mount is still not approved by RED.

Because of its technical specs and features, both Birger and IMS cannot work with i/cable.

Birger found a solution to "fold" i/cable in a tube (right!?).

P+S Technik "suggested" to carefully "get i/cable inside" of RED body (wrong!?).

Btw, there is no any technical possibility to "fold", to "safe" or to "place" i/cable inside IMS base mount

because it needs that space to "host" many other lens adapter mounts:

Arri PL, Nikon F, Canon FD & EOS, Leica R & M, Contax/Yashica, Panavision, B4, C mount, etc,...

That's all about the installation of both mounts related to RED.

In terms of usability wise mount for RED, IMS is a winner and absolutely unbeatable in comparison with

Birger, Alesniak or any other mount (even PL with i/cable).

Also, technically speaking, IMS can adopt Birger and Alesniak mounts but not vice versa.

I would like to suggest the option that RED give a chance to choose all the mounts that would fit in the following user=request string.

1. If you need PL only or PL with i/cable choose always RED PL mount.

2. If you need Nikon F mount only choose always RED/Doug Underdahl/Nikon F mount.

3. If you need Canon EF choose Birger EF or Alesniak EF mount.

4. If you need more universal lens mount that you can fast and easy swap between PL, Panavision, B4 and some still lens mounts then always choose IMS.

What a wonderful world would give you RED camera with all those mounts!?

Sanjin,

Do you think you can do something about all this?

Can you talk to P+S?

Maybe I'm wrong, but if Birger succeded to be certified, it seems to me that IMS could get it if they really want, don't you think?

They know you well. Maybe it can help if you talk to them.
Jarred seems to be opened if they adapt a little and COMMUNICATE ;-)

Kind regards

Rami

hey dont know, but wasnt it like red gave the p&S guys the chance to get in contact?---- and they missed the oppurtunity.

i understand that red has more important things to do with their ressources then running after the P&S guys....and they dont have an advantage from that ims mount

red is great...but they are not the wellfare

That was exactly what I was trying to achieve with the poll where I asked how many people would wait with buying the IMS until the warranty issue got resolved. Within a few hours 31 had said so, including a very prominent DP and a moderator. Then the poll got pulled, sorry if someone took this as an attack on RED; it really was not meant that way.

Anyway, as suggested, send a friendly e-mail to P+S stating that you would love to buy the IMS but they have to co-operate with RED first to get the warraty issue(s) out of the way. Email is info@pstechnik.de

If 50 e-mail them, that would represent about 50.000 Euro for P+S. :greedy:

Oh, leave a little note here so we know that you did.

P.S: I just sent an e-mail.

K.Berlin,

I don't get it... Are you trying to help? No...
Please don't waste your time making things worse, thank you!

I just did mail P&S requesting clarification on warrenty issues.

Firstly, Id be happy to purchase a number of IMS mounts for our Red hire cameras.

A particular feature request is to make an electronic version of the EF mount to remote focus, Iris and power IS lenses for Canon L lenses.

A little Apology to RED

A little Apology to RED

  1. RED is an awesome company with unprecedentet customer service dedication
  2. I have never before experienced a company that was as open as RED are
  3. Can't wait to get my RED and am sure my posting frequency will take a serious dent once it arrives.
  4. I try to keep my postings un-agressive. If someone has taken offense at some of them, I apologize.

i am not trying to help you...do you need help? for what? That Red allows every 3rd party vendor to do whatever they want...
Ask P&S if they will pay for your Bills, if something goes wrong with their mount.
i do multicam RED shoots every week and i am as a reduser more interested in red getting things done THEY are working on.Period

PS had the chance....they still have the chance

Is is it possible that anyone could build or modify an IMS EF (for Canon EF Lenses) intermediate mount and fit an electronic interface to it to control Iris, Focus and power IS lenses.

Im particularly interested in using L series glass.

Any one else interested in this mount or modification.

I think before we discuss the improvement of IMS ( eg iris control) we shoud
do the first step.
Several write mail to IMS.
I just phone with them last Friday.
During my phone with P+S Aki from told me " its maybe time to make a post on red forum"
I really hope he do so.
I keep Jarred word, that he want to have a solution.
What I like to see is a solution.
In the final dream i would like to see a combination of an inteligent interchange mount like IMS combine with Birger) but maybe that will be a dream for the rest of the year
