  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IMS news please

My understanding is this is the version that they sent to Red for approval.

P&S went ahead and released it anyway, maybe that's what has upset Red.

I believe that you have to sign a waiver when you buy it, stating that you accept that the warranty has been voided.

Again, I'm not trying to stoke the fire, I'm just trying to get as much info as I can out there in case we can assist in finding a solution.

I keep coming back to the only solution being to get them talking, not in email, but on the phone or face to face.

Like a lot of us, I would buy one today if this were resolved. Could mean $100,000 worth of orders if they would just pick up the phone! :)

Excellent points and good info.

When I spoke to a friendly guy at the IBC he said that P+S had sent a mount to RED. When RED voiced worries about having to cut off that iCable, they sent some photographs, showing that the cable would indeed not be damaged (I can only guess that those were the same as the ones Sanjin posted a few posts back). Since then they have not heard from RED.

If that should indeed be true, it would surprise me; RED comes across as a very good communicator. Birger did its best to communicate poorly with RED, still they got the green light after heavy pleading from the Red community. P+S seems more forward with info and changes (not to mention that they actually are shipping). P+S seemed open about working with Birger, but Birger came across as showing the cold shoulder. IMS should be a great solution for all RED One owners, as it frees up new possibilities in lenses...

Would be a pity (and big loss to the Red movement) if IMS was crippled because of some misunderstanding.

Is there anything we can do to help alleviate this situation?

Chocolate for Jarred? Nobel price for Sanjin?

Would love to have this situation resolved before shipment of our Red in November.

Not sure about that… you don’t have to mix up this forum with communication to other firms…

I got a different statement form them… Birger and IMS will not be a pair in the future, that what I got to hear... and Martin: Don´t buy the story about the Birger "cold shoulder"...

Very right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think we all have to stay unified on this one. Rather than piecing together history we should stay focused on getting them talking.

Maybe everyone interested in making a purchase states it here, then we combine them all into an email to P&S with Red's phone number and a big PLEASE CALL!:help:

If we demonstrate that it's in their financial interest to pursue this, maybe they will.

Other ideas?

If that was indeed the case, I would understand both sides. P+S has used money to develop their mount, thus they need to get it out to get some ROI going.
RED might be wary of another Birger/Aqua situation where they fixed cameras that were broken by third party mounts.

I do not believe that Red "blocks" the IMS because they want to sell their own mounts. RED has always been open. So either Red knows of some fatal flaws that we don't, or something has indeed upset RED. In case of the former, I'd love to know about it to help me make an informed decision. In the latter case I can only beg both parties to get it sorted out. Everyone would benefit. (I'd throw in chocolates for both sides; or alternatively Norwegian brown cheese.)

Bottom line is, I would love to make my awesome RED One even more awesome with the IMS. I would hate having to ruin my warranty.

What do you think of my petition idea?
Anything that helps. If the IMS gets the RED o.k. (along the same lines as the Birger; i.e. as long as a camera error is not due to the mount, then RED will fix it free of charge) I would order my IMS at once. Would hate having to delay the delivery of our RED one (I am not a patient soul ;) ).

Hi Fritz,

That's certainly what P&S are saying as well.

I wouldn't think the SI-4K would stop Red from approving a P&S mount. Seems just like a very strange stalled communication.

One thing is for sure... Red does not like to be out "Redded" by a non-Red entity.

My guess... Red will introduce upgrades that will compete with certain third-party vendors.

Jim loves competition, and he loves to win!

Why allow someone else's "standard" (IMS) to flourish as a direct result of your product, when you can create your own "standard"?

Just my guess, based on years of watching Jim in the action sports industries.

Go Jim!

Thor,

I'm not so sure in this case.

Just to remind you on the RED MB example.

It was announced even with a rendering picture and then very soon after that canceled.

Maybe it was too much to deal with all that production issues in the moment for a such small company like RED.

Just my 2 schillings.

I think we should use our powers as customers, since we are the one how will pay the bill anyway…

We shouldn’t get both, RED and P&S, not get away with the kind they are handling this situation right now…

BTW – Even so P&S does not like to post in this forum for some reason - they surly following the discussions here….

Sanjin,

That's a fair observation. Thank you for reminding me.

Either way, I hope it's resolved. If not, I only have 3 months left on my warranty anyway. :-)

A MB is a different story than a mount… can’t make the use of a MB to a warranty issue, can’t you?

Okay, let's see what happens. :w00t:

Anyone who's serious about ordering an IMS if P&S get in touch with Red, work it out and finish what they started, quote this entry and add your name. Burger or I will compile them and get them to P&S.

Martin: Don´t buy the story about the Birger "cold shoulder"...

Yep, this statement of Erik does make it indeed look as though I was wrong.

P+S Technik has known about us since 2005, when one of our customers put a Birger mount on a Pro35. We asked for drawings to support this effort, and they blew us off. That was the last communication between our companies.

They have not approached us since that time to discuss incorporating our mounts with their system. I suspect there will be some serious mechanical issues that would need to be resolved.

Apologies in that case.

You can add me to the list.
We have two Reds coming hopefully in November and I would really like to have them fitted out with the IMS mount.
I don't want to go against Red and screw my warranty, but if I have to, I will. The investment we as a company have already made in glass and accessories not to mention post facilities,is far greater than the cost of replacing the two Red bodies.
I've never been concerned in the past about altering a piece of kit in order to use the glass I need,to get the shots.
So I don't think it's taking such a large risk, especially since there are obviously quite a few of you guy's already using the IMS without any issues, other than the warranty.
However a clear statement from Red about what they see as the problem with the mount would be useful,it would help all of us who are considering the IMS to make an informed decision.

Tom.

Well said Tom.

Last weekend I had a shooting in Verona, Italy during heavy rain.

RED and IMS both preformed PERFECT.
