  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IMS mount tested?

From the latest that I had read, the IMS mount has not been approved by Red. They made no room to channel the i-cable. When Sanjin gets back from Holiday in a couple weeks or so he will liaison with P+S and we will see what the status is at that point. In it's current configuration the mount will void your warranty.

Has anyone heard different?

According to P+S Technik the first batch is sold out and is shipping now.

I could be wrong, but I thought I read that in its current configuration it should not void the warranty. It will be just like swapping the PL for any other mount (nikon, etc.). Of course this is only what P+S has said. No official word from Red.

I received mine two weeks ago. I have not set it up yet, because I am shooting right now, however in this post; Fritz has set it up;

Indeed. Got it installed a week ago @ P+S, had a first shoot last friday. Was changing between Red18-50 and Canon EF Macro 100/2.8. It's simply a pleasure. Filmed the whole IMS installation process with my FX1 Handycam, just didn't have the time to capture/edit/compress/post anything.:weight_lift:
P+S will surely post something on their homepage, pics and grabs from me will follow next week.

AND: that macro is great fun. Next step should be microscopy - since having recorded TEM-footage of DNA as close to the chromatides I am totally intrigued by that world.

Cheers, Fritz
It is found in this well stacked away thread ;

PS Technik is still in talks with Red, and so far Red has voided the warranty because of the way the I-cable has to be cut or put away. I have been in talks with PS technik, and asked about their policy in this, but still no official word from them.
I will change my mount for the IMS mount very soon, if I can find a solution for the Icable (which they say they provide in a manual which came with the mount). I also asked if they will change their design for this if , but no answer from them so far.

Hi Harky,

Per P+S Technik 6-17-08:

"Dear friends, partners and clients of P+S Technik

We are happy to inform you about the latest news regarding our
Interchangeable Mount System (IMS) for RED One.
To implement the IMS on the RED One is much easier than expected in the
beginning. The replacement of the whole RED front is not needed anymore.
Due the fact that only the original RED mount needs to be replaced by the
P+S Technik IMS, no warranty limitations will be damaged. If needed the IMS
can also be re-exchanged to the original RED One mount. The thermically
characteristics of the RED One front will stay the same after this IMS
modification.
The simplicity of this exchange makes the shipping the RED One to P+S
Technik unnecessary. It can be done by everybody with a technical basic
understanding.

Consequently we could lower the mentioned price in the beginning of 1.500,00
to 680,00 Euros only. The article number is 24209

Shims to collimate the IMS will be included in delivery as well as an
instruction.

...

If you want to receive your already reserved IMS for RED please send us an
order for the article number 24209. The expected delivery time will be 2
weeks."

Per Jarred Land in response to P+S Technik Press Release 6-17-08

"This is great news.. if it was true.

Red is the only voice that can tell you if a product voids our warranty or not.. I am a little surprised that they would make this announcement without any communication with RED.

We are just as excited about this product as you guys are, and its in everyone's best interest for it to be accurate.. but we are waiting for a demo so we can legitimize their claims."

Per Jarred 07-17-2008

"In case anyone is wondering... the P+S technic mount came in, and it has no allocation for the /i pin cable whatsoever, so they are going back to the drawing board to resolve that issue.

As of right now, the P+S adapter defiantly voids the warranty, as the only way to make it work is to actually cut off the /i cable."

Per Sanjin on 07-19-2008

"On August 12 I'm back to Vienna from Spain (Formentera and Ibiza) then I'll be on a way to Ottobrunn/München at August 13/14 to re-solve this issue with IMS and i/cable."

Per Jarred on 07-19-2008

"Great news man, keep us posted."

OK, sorry for the misinformed statement on Jarred never looking at the IMS mount. I will edit my post.

Hope this helps Harky.

Cheers,

Andrew

I spoke to P&S today and they said the same thing - it voids the warranty at the moment but they are in talks.

No question this is the case.

Man I hope they resolve this because it would be SWEET! Imagine being able to put whatever you wanted on, right on set!

Here are some more prices for the adapters if anyone is interested:

Panavision mount 371E
BNC-R mount 371E
Nikon F Mount 236E
Canon EF Mount 236E

I've got P+S Technik IMS mount at my office in Vienna about two weeks ago.

Not yet installed and tested.

At the moment I'm in Spain at Ibiza and be back in Vienna at August 12.

Also I will visit P+S Technik office in Ottobrunn/München at August 14, bring my RED to get IMS installed by P+S Technik technician and discuss i/cable warranty issue with a great hope that P+S Technik can make some changes to IMS base mount and IMS PL mount adapter that could work in the future with RED camera's i/cable activation and to not have any warranty issue with RED.

Greetings from Ibiza and a small village Jesus, from Italian Wine Bar terrasse Wi-fi internet cafe, (best espresso coffee, best wine in area).

Hey, Sanjin,

I'm jealous, seriously. I'm a techno junkie. I hope you're enjoying all the clubs over there.

When you meet with P+S, please don't forget to ask them about the Birger mount. Jarred just announced that it will not void the general warranty for the Red Camera.

Happy day!

-Thor

I've just received my mount too.
Not yet installed, waiting for the Bncr adapter (and some news from Red...).
Waiting for you, Sanjin!

Absolutely. I had an order for the Birger Nikon and then for the Birger Canon, but canceled it recently because, despite it's obvious benefits, the fact that it's a "resident" mount made it to be not as appealing to me as the P+S Technik IMS solution. If there ever were a Birger for IMS mount made, I'd certainly order it in a jiffy. Or, any electronic controlled mount for the IMS, for that matter. Be it by Birger, ET, or what have you.

But, in the end, having interchangeable lens mounts on the RED is my equivalent of the holy grail. Having it not void the factory warranty would be better yet. And if it allows for electronically controlled mounts, wow... I'd be in heaven.

:innocent:

warranty vs IMS

warranty vs IMS

Hey Guys,

I am in New York for the next three weeks, so you will have to wait some time until I can send frame grabs - was really very busy until the day of my flight.

Well, it is everybody's personal choice - I chose to void a warranty that lasts a year and after that will be gone whatever you do or don't do. For me, to have an i/cable mount was less important than the ability to use a macro-lens. And everything worked fine. My suggestion is: let the operation be handled by P+S. They are experts on it, they've been working with the IMS for years now. And they seem to be working on a real i/cable solution as well.
I personally find it much more risky upgrading to beta firmware and software, sthg that REALLY has an impact on the image processing, than to exchange one piece of metal for another one. But well, I am not a camera graduate,:whistling: I got a grade in contemporary history:ninja: and - as working in Italy - I am entitled to call myself a "giornalista professionista" (whatever this means in the real world):nerd:

All the best,

Fritz

Thor,

I told about Birger mount and i/cable to P+S Technik bosses at my first meeting with them in Ottobrunn a few months ago.

That means they knew about it earlier.

About clubbing here in Ibiza all have got a bit calmer because all the clubs closing about 2 am in morning and no any more parties after that time are allowed.

So we are more to entertain ourselves at exclusive parties on our private pools and villas around island.

I've just received my mount too.

Elcurado,

more news about IMS at mid of August.
