Hi,

I wish I could improve my workflow.

I have:
- I7 4Ghz
- 32GB DDR3 RAM 1600Mhz
- Geforce 1080 Ti
- 512GB SSD in main disk

I read my 8K rushes on REDCINE X PRO and edit on Final Cut Pro 10.4.

I have three identical discs (Barracuda 10 TB) and so I would like to know if putting them in RAID I will gain something in reading speed of R3D or editing on Final Cut Pro?

I also ask the question of changing editing software (Premiere or Resolve), what is the software that currently allows better management of reading rushes?

Finally, if I had to change my configuration, what do you advise me to change and with which OS?

Thank you for your reply.

Raid 1 isn't faster, raid 5 is what you need. How many cores on the processor? Def get a raid 5 set up though

As mentioned above, RAID 5 is what you should be aiming for. I'd go for 4-5 spinning disk solution for optimal performance (read bandwidth). Be sure to have a backup - RAID created inside a pc on a local controller can easily fall apart - like if there were some kind of power outrage, or one of the disks didn't start for some reason, while staying healthy.

Though, RAID 1 IS faster than one spinning disk somewhat. The gain is not in the bandwidth, but in the speed of accessing a file. You'll find jumping over cuts way faster on a RAID1 than on a single disk. It does depend on your controller, OS and drivers though. Some RAID controllers utilize RAID1 while reading the same way they do on a RAID0 - they do data striping among disks, giving you gain in performance (accessing a file).
