Hi

I'm trying to get Avid to batch import the last three clips of a big batch.

Everything else has come in without a hitch but these three (all of which are around 3-4min takes) just will not relink to the the QT Refs.

I'm guessing this is an issue related to spanned R3D files but for the life of me I simply can not get them to batch or figure out a soloution.

We're currently using the RedRushes method as outlined in the Avid StepbyStep doc.

All help or advice is, as always, much apprechiated.

So the clips have already been transcoded to QT wrapped DNxHD and you are trying to merge them to the ALE that was imported? Have you tried importing them without merging them into the ALE? If that works, compare the duration of the import to the duration of the same clip from the ALE to see if it the same.

Hello again Michael,

No, we're exporting QT REFs from RED Rushes and using the ALE to Batch Import them into the Avid.

The QT REF, when opened in QuickTime will play back the R3D file but Avid will not allow me to link (via the Batch Import window) that QT ref to the clip inside the Avid.

The only thing I can think is it's got something to do with the long takes and therefore the slip R3D files.

Thanks,

G.

Can you try encoding to QT wrapped DNxHD rather than use references?

Michael

Micheal, I will give that a go and see what happens.

Amit, Batching at DNxHD36

I'll get back with results.

Sure. 36, 115, 175... whatever! ;)

Let me know.

Michael

Using RedRushes to export QT Movies with the following settings,

Render: Full Res, External/TOD, Camera, Look Source, Look Source

Output: QuickTime Movie, DNxHD 36

This method is much better! Transcode from R3D much faster and then I can Fast Import the QT file into Avid.

Tell me this is a recent development, or I'm gonna be kicking myself.

Oh and of course it fixes the problem I was seeing with long takes!

Many, Many Thanks.

G.

You might have to kick yourself... it has been several months. I would also suggest that you do not need a full debayer, especially if going DNxHD 36 for dailies. And as another FYI, the step by step guide on www.avid.com/red was updated to reflect these changes.

Consider myself kicked!

This works really well. I've been reading the updates eachtme they're relased but recently only really been interested in the MetaFuze stuff. That'll teach me to read the whole doc.

Any idea what the rough encode times are for a 1 minute of R3D @ 25fps to each of the various 25fps compatible DNxHD codecs?
