I wouldn't call build 17 'rock solid'. It has playback problems, occasional record (audio fault!) problems and some cameras still have start-up problems. Actually I think build 16 was more stable than build 17, but I can't go back because of the 16GB cards that only work with build 17.

Build 17.

Build 17.

No software is ever perfect, but build 17 is what we used on ten (10) Red cameras 2 weeks ago for the "Journey" Revelation concert in Manila, Philippines. We recorded 4K for over 2 hours continuously. No Problemo! We have shot 4 full length features, several documentaries, and many dozen TV spots around Asia. So far, so good. We have had build 17 for a few months now, I am not going to recommend build 16 to a friend.

hello everybody !!
I already joined Redusers and still don`t know well how to deal with..
Anybody knows when the build 18 is about to be released totally operative ???

Build 16 has become unstable for me (don't know why, it was fine). Build17 was a nightmare. Build 18 beta has bugs, but on balance has been far better than b17 for me, in terms of frequency of problems. None are behaving for me though.

1:1 focus checks are available with b17 and 18, I would miss those with b16.

Any major updates for B18 that make it worth it?

Build 18 seems a bit more stable for me than Build 17. Although, I admittedly never gave B17 much of a chance. Build 18 has all the anamorphic goodies.

One man's "Rock-Solid" is another man's "Buggy"

Jeremy, I suggest you check on the specific bugs that are affecting users of Build 17, here's a whole thread on B17 bugs. My personal experience with B17 would not lead me to conclude it is rock solid. I have zero experience with Build 18.

I've also written at length about my recent issues with a Red running B17. YMMV (and I sincerely hope it does).

I completed multiple projects with build 18 and it was very stable. Only encountered a few internal fault issues but nothing major.

Unfortunately, I do not have too many great things to say about build 17 on others cameras I have used on many projects. However, build 18 has been great on my camera and everyone elses that i have used . highly recommend build 18!

does build 18 work with Final Cut and all the plug-ins? Including Color? And how about Clipfinder?

I havn't found any build to be 'rock solid'. Way too many bugs in the system to be called that...way too many, but i think that's just RED world. 95% of the way there and i think they know it, hence the big EPIC/SCARLET push...i would think RED will get that final 5% in the new generation of cameras. Bring them on...

We had serious trouble with B17 in one of our two cameras;all the well-known stuff: rebooting, green screen, "Audio PB error". Went back to B16 and now we can rent them confidently. Alas... our 6 16GB CF cards rest uselessly in a drawer. And we can´t rent the cameras with B18 Beta because it would be sort of irresponsible.
So... Waiting anxiously for the final, slooooow release of B18 Alfa!!! (which was announced more or less as "not any more a priority" quite long ago)

What's the new meter represent in b17? Next to the stoplight?
It's the RAW exposure meter. All the other meters show you the exposure based on the ISO and look settings, whereas the RAW meter always shows you if the RAW information is clipping or not. As long as you don't see the top red band, you're good to go.
