  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

*IMPORTANT* Please Participate!! "Chronicles of Perseverance" NEEDS YOU!!

One good donation system I've seen work in the past was the Project Peach system.

They accepted donations and gave away DVDs as a 'gift' over a certain donation rate. You might get a higher donation rate if there are tiered donation levels. Maybe credits, DVDs, etc.

Thanks Gavin, this is the kind of advises I'm looking to get, hopefully I'll get some more :)

I was told to stay away from the Paypal system by some, while other suggest it, confused.

The iPhone APP will have various options as well as the web based app, but I need to find out which one to use and how to use it, as well as like you just said, differentiate the various donations, in ranks of amounts, and give something accordingly.

I have been working with a company to make some kind of items as to represent the Movie in it self, but mostly the cause for which all of this stands for, which will be sold on the web, but given away to those that participate with a donation over a certain amount, this off course would be specially design for such purpose.

Thanks again for your input Gavin.

I would agree about staying away from PayPal unless you have no choice. They are unregulated crooks (my experience).

He he, so I have been hearing, even so I use them for small sale transactions, but I just didn't think could be a good idea for this kinda of scenario.

One of the large challenges I think you'll face is the escrow conundrum.

I think a lot of people who want to 'sponsor' or in some other way assist with funding want to ensure their money will be spent. I would look into an escrow system where funding is held until it's spent on production to ensure your sponsors that you don't get sufficient funding and just grind to a halt, unable to spend the donations.

Alternately PayPal screws the buyer or the seller due to their refusal to pay in cases of fraud.

If the buyer is fraudulent and claims they never received the product. Or received the product but then returned a brick to you PayPal can take the money back.

Conversely if the seller is fraudulent but you don't get the package they can keep your money and refuse to refund it.

People on both sides of the line have lost lots of money.

People on both sides of the line have lost lots of money.

And people will continue to lose money as long as PayPal is an unregulated financial company. PayPal purposely puts loopholes on both sides (of seller & buyer "protection") because this allows PayPal to save money by effectively not really having to pay "protection" to either side. On top of that there is a large list of more unethical practices PayPal is guilty of, that I don't really have the energy to go into right now. I wrote a thread a while back on similar topic: link

A recent example: Since now I refuse to link my bank account info with PayPal because this gives them TOTAL leverage to take money as they see fit (which your bank cannot do *anything* about), I only link my AMEX (which gives buyers REAL recourse via chargebacks (which ironically puts sellers at risk)). PayPal doesn't like my bank account not being linked, so they put a "Sending Limit" on my account. To remove this limit, I can either link my bank account (no go for me) or Enroll in the PayPal credit card as a payment option. So I do the latter, and my sending limits are instantly lifted. Here's the kicker: now, every time I try to send money using my AMEX card, PayPal disables that card as a valid payment option and essentially FORCES me to use the PayPal credit card (on which they charge very high rates and have all sorts of fees attached to). I call and ask them WHY ALL OF A SUDDEN I CANNOT USE MY AMEX in sending money? They say, "for this transaction, our computer system has disabled your AMEX card as a valid payment option due to security reasons." Yeah, right.

I could go on and on.

Sorry KETCH did not mean to Hijack this thread :jacked:

He he, no, actually is all informative and good to now to stay away from Paypal if and when all possible, unfortunately, too many people in today's market place use their services even stores like B&H, and some of those that buy stuff from you will not do so unless you take Paypal, so this is a catch 21 kinda of thing :)
