IMPORTANT for Mac Users. Mac has taken the Express 34 out of the 15" MBP. For pro users this really blows. No audio/video card expandability or esata speed. They took the "pro" out of the 15" MBP. Now you have to lug a 17" to get the feature. If you shoot RED or P2 or work in audio or post, you know how much this sucks. Sign the petition below and pass it on to your production friends to get it back.

They brought FW 400 back to the Macbook after people stood up. We must now.

All due respect, they most likely brought FW back on the low end Macbooks because the educational market refused to buy laptops that they couldn't mount in target disc mode. The EDU market is huge for Apple, which spurred that change. The market segment that won't buy the 15" because of a lack of express cards is small enough to be negligible by most accounts. I'm not saying don't try, but don't make out the whole Macbook/FW800 thing into a David vs. Goliath victory story.

Not disagreeing with you on your petition, but can you tell me how you're expanding audio/video? - the wikipedia article for expresscard says:

Video Graphics Cards
According to the Official ExpressCard Website,[3] "We do not expect that a stand-alone ExpressCard graphics accelerator will be developed in the near term. Graphics accelerators currently require more board space than even an ExpressCard/54 module provides, more power than the ExpressCard slot can provide and produce more heat than an ExpressCard module can safely dissipate.

signed, now we need a "WAKE UP APPLE AND GET BLU-RAY DRIVES/BURNERS IN YOUR MACHINES, AND START WORKING ON YOUR PRO-APPS AGAIN, please" petition.

I agree with this petition as I think the Express34 port is a critical part of my workflow and if I was in the market for a 15" Macbook Pro I'd want it. But having said that, I'm a big fan of the 17" MB Pro. I need all of the real estate I can get, and I need to see as much detail in the images as I can get when I'm checking shots. But if the extra size is too much, I suppose I can see why people would be upset that they can't get same functionality in the smaller footprint.

I'll sign the petition.

Agreed on everything. I just got a 17" MBP, but signed the petition.

I just bought a MacBook Pro the other day to better my DIT rig, thinking only of RED footage... I completely forgot about the P2 data world...

What are you trying to say? I'm not trying to create a David and Goliath thing. I just know that pro users are the race car drivers of mac. In short our impact in shaping opinion to the wider consumer market can be stronger than numbers. Mac is probably aware that pro users are also the strongest preachers of the gospel of Mac. Hopefully if enough people get off their ass and attempt to do something, they may change.

signed.

though I did use a 17inch mac book pro. I find it as light as the older 15 incher.
I have the old 17inch.. which is a dinasaur.

seriously guys.. the new 17 inch isnt as bad as you think it is... i'm starting to like it.

WE NEED A BLURAY PETITION. THAT IS WAAAY MORE IMPORTANT.
