I am not on the Tattoo program, but like many here I spend a lot of time Thinking about the various parts of the Epic.

My suggestion is in regards to the Pro I/O module.. I would think it would be a good thing if the outputs could be angled to face towards the back of the camera.

I know there is a possibility that cables could then hit things like the SSD or CF drive, but if I understand correctly, you can always put the I/O module on last in the chain, could you not?

I use the ASL gear panel, and all outputs are rear facing.. This has been a huge help in my working with the camera.

If you mean about RED feedback on Epic stuff ...

I would say no feedback in public except Jim and RED Team in RED headquarters decide to publish (tell us in any way) how it is now going with Epic.

More or less the same as you would get with any industry product today that has so high expectation on its market.

Actually nothing new to say about that ol' rule of business.

Just wait and see what you would get...

"We are listening" but at the moment they are "listening like Ostriches" which they supposed to be bury their heads in sand...

But I could be totally wrong on ... Ostriches and also on Epic...???!!!

Hey Jay,

This might make a nice, cheap, efficient solution.

Those are 50ohm connectors, which will really cut down the signal strength of HD. If you're going to get them (which I assume you'll need to, since the BNC connectors appear so far to be sunk pretty far into the body, meaning if you don't have tiny fingers it will be hard to detach them) then you should make sure to get 75ohm versions (don't have plastic around the pins or inside the collars) and get a bunch, because they do wear out.

yeah,

The point was the elbow, not the 75 vs. 50ohm thing.

Having seen that the latest Phantom cameras come with a remote which displays the image (no idea at what rez), can the RedMote (or at least the RedMote Pro version) also show a video image?

I don't know how many times it's been said that the Redmote and Redmote Pro will be for camera control purposes, not monitoring.

Right now wireless HD monitoring options are available for around ~5000€. Red is awesome, but shoving that tech into a 500$ / 1750$ remote(which are both already major innovations) as a "quick add-on" would mean that the redmotes would be considerably larger, heavier and way more expensive, not to mention that this isn't a feature you can just quickly add, it just doesn't make sense.

I'm not saying Red shouldn't or won't offer a wireless monitoring option at one point, but it certainly won't be cheap and it certainly shouldn't be in the Redmote. If you try to make the redmote do everything it won't be good at anything. We have modularity, I'm sure a wireless monitoring module will come up soon enough.

Below is the announcement from Jim of a module that will allow wireless monitoring along with other capabilities. The general existence of wi-fi built into the Epic/Scarlet brains should provide options. I don't think the issue of any potential latency has been discussed as yet.

RED is increasing the workflow flexibility on Epic and Scarlet with Proxy Modules… the first of which is an H.264 Module.

This module encodes a 1080P stream (high quality scale from full frame) and records to Compact Flash in a rear module. The module also offers secure password protected streaming over dedicated WiFi and ethernet to iPhones, iPads, laptops as well as broadcast to the internet.

This will be beneficial for on set viewing, instant dailies, offline editing, easy file transfer to remote locations, dailies review and collaboration services with such companies as Pix, or live broadcasting for realtime media distribution.

The modules will also support full metadata and XML for editorial.

Availability will be September 2010 and the price will be $2500.
