IMDB Credits as what? "Red Editor", "Red Scenes Editor", "Red Footage"? Help!

A feature film was completed along with its IMDB page created.

I then was requested to come on board as a visual effects artist to redo a few visual effects shots from scratch, they literally tossed out the old ones and I re did them.

Aside from that, there was about 10 minutes of scenes shot on the Red, which they wanted me to recut and replace and color correct. The rest of the film was shot on 35MM so I had to match as best as possible.

So I used the .r3d files, converted to 2K, edited them in, and color corrected and got final approvals.

I also did noise removal on some of the other scenes shot on film because it was overly grainy and not properly balanced, this was done using visual effects.

Everyone was very happy involved and the film overall looks much better now.

What was my role on the film in IMDB language? I have to ask the producers for credits I dont think they'll offer since they are very busy.

Red Footage Editor, or Red Scenes Editor, or Red Editor
Additional Colorist,
Final Online Editor, or Additional Online Editor
Additional Visual Effects, or Visual Effects Artist

All of the above?

Thanks for your suggestions for the proper IMDB naming.

I would put colorist and VFX

you dont need to specify what type of footage you colored when you see credits it never states sony f900 colorist of 35mm panavision colorist

its simple you colored parts of the movie your a colorist..you did VFX your VFX

Great

Great

Thanks! Yes that makes sense about not needing to specify the medium!

Since there is already 1 colorist, 1 editor, and 1 lead visual effects artist on the film, and I was brought on after the film was finished and they realized it had to be improved...

Can there be 2 editors, and 2 colorists? I know for visual effects films there are many instances of visual effects artists, but only 1 lead visual effects artist or visual effects supervisor.

Is that okay for me to have credits as editor and colorist, so there would be 2 "Editors" and 2 "Colorists". I did not work with the original Editor and Colorist on this, and did redo 10 minutes of the film from scratch, using original red .r3d files.

Thanks, sorry I don't know all of this already I am just now beginning to receive IMDB credits.

there's no rule book of how many people you can list in the category, they just develop secondary and more titles for the amount of work you've done. Usually you'll see the word "additional" or second unit mixed in there. DP's don't always light all the scenes in the film, they'll have several units shooting according to what he/she wants, feature films can be cut buy several editors working off a sans system, but the head editor in charge of the project gets the primary credit for it. So I think you fall in the line of "additional vfx" category, some color grading sometimes falls into that, and for the edit, you can also have in as "additional edits" there might be a more proper way of the title but you get my point right?

Thanks.

Thanks.

there's no rule book ... but you get my point right?

Yes, thanks that helps a lot! I looked at Avatars IMDB page and realized there can be more than one person with the same role, yes your right otherwise additional would be appropriate, thanks for the help!

You didn't do the primary story cut, so I'm not sure "editor" is appropriate. Probably Associate Editor and a second credit for Visual Effects. You should really ask both the producers and the main film editor if they have any issues or suggestions with this.

You don't decide what a credit should be based on the camera used, unless it is something very specialized that comes with a dedicated technician such as a cablecam or something. For the most part the 'old fashioned' credits still apply in the digital age.

Having said that, I really liked how my credit as "Digital Cinema Specialist" looked on a few recent projects! :-)
