I have been trying to find the best solution but nothing that has fit quite right for my editing needs. Could anyone supply a link or another thread that has a good full work flow for editing in this chain.... shoot 4K raw, transcode to 1080, cut, reconnect raw files, color grade, export.

I know the parts just not the best methods and settings.

thank you!

First off you need a decent RAID set-up.

This should be the home of your R3Ds and transcoded clips.

Now without knowing what you have as far as hardware, cant add anymore.

Raid is all ready to go, running thunderbolt on an up to date iMac with Mavericks and the adobe creative suite CS6. Red rocket card is not an option now so I was looking to go the 1080p and then reconnect raw route but I do not know the specifics of how to do this.

If you plan on staying within the Adobe CS eco-system (Premiere Pro, After Effects and SpeedGrade) then you should be fine working in RAW format.
If you have speed issues then you have the option to transcode from Premiere Pro or REDCine.
Probably best to stay native IMHO.

Thank you for the advice, if i were to add on Resolve for my grading would there be addition roundtrip steps? Will EDLs send to Resolve?

This workflow is good for individuals and/or online/offline post.
Step 1. 1-lite color grade as well as white balance and output your files from RedcineX to redlogfilm prores 4444 2k/1080p, make sure GPU support is enabled.
Step 2. sync sound in Resolve or RedcineX by TC sync if you want to embed audio, otherwise sync sound with your NLE.
Step 3. import the redlogfilm files into Resolve and apply the drop-down 3DLUT for the Fuji or Kodak Rec709, add more contrast if needed or adjust your curves and sliders.
Step 4. render to the file format you want to edit with, usually prores 422 variant (HQ, LT, or Proxy).
Step 5. at the end of editing, you can relink to the redlogfilm files within your NLE and/or roundtrip back to resolve for final color grading.

As long as your redlogfilm 4444 files have a proper 1-lite and are white balanced, they can potentially be used for final color grading at the end of post.
If you cannot do a 1-lite color grade or white balance your R3D files, then ignore this workflow.

Look into XML from Adobe.

Ive never had to do it, Ill check when I get a chance.

An EDL is basically a text file, its compatible with everything. XML is a little more complicated, but is compatible with almost everything as well.

From Premiere CC, there is Export > Final Cut Pro XML option.

I will test it with RESOLVE and see if it works.

This is what I use in FCPX and its been solid for the past year round-tripping to RESOLVE and back.
