Hi everyone! I shoot and edit RED footage with the latest iMac 5K - 4.0ghz // 32GB ram // 4GB graphics card. My questions is - Would it benefit me in anyway to upgrade to 64GB of ram? Or not really? I edited in Premiere CC if that means anything. Thanks!

you can check how much memory you're currently using if you open up Activity monitor while you're editing.

More than likely, you're probably only using 15 or so gigs of your ram, so if you upgrade to 64, you would not see a difference.

Like Jake suggested, use Activity Monitor. Keep an eye on your memory usage while you go through your normal workflows. If you run up to the 32GB limit on a regular basis, then an upgrade may give you a boost here and there. On a 4-core system, 32GB is going to be fine most of the time unless you're working it pretty hard in AE, Nuke, Fusion, possibly Resolve... On the flip side of this, you can run a larger pre-computational cache in Premiere, Redcine-X, ect.. with more RAM and that helps. But an extra 32GB of RAM doesn't buy you much in that department. Much better on bigger systems that can have 128 or 256GB there so they can cache an entire shot or sequence for looping/coloring in real-time.
