I've recently picked up an iMac 27 quadi7 and tested it with the mxo to no avail. The iMac ships with 10.6.2 but I noticed that matrox states (on their website) that the MXO only supports 10.6.1 for ATI cards. Before I go through a fresh install I was hoping someone in the forum may have some first hand experience with the mxo and the 27.

As always I appreciate any/all info.

I tested the i5 iMac with nvidia and it is certified with 10.6.2, so that was fine, and now I have i7 iMac with ATI so I'm intending to install 10.6.1 came with i5 iMac. So far everybody that I talked to says should work fine including Matrox support.

Thank you Kaku,

Any idea what the issue between MXO, ATI, & Apple is? Who do you think will/should resolve this issue? Do we have to wait for ATI to update their drivers or will Matrox be able to do something about this?

thx

How do you connect a Matrox MXO to an iMac?

I thought the matrox was e Pcie or Express Card solution?

I decided to install the 10.6.0 retail disk onto a USB external drive and upgrade it to 10.6.1 to test MXO integration. Didn't work because I couldn't get 10.6.0 to install!?!?!?!

Has anybody figured out how to get 10.6.0 or 10.6.1 onto the i7 imac?

Matrox is waiting for ATI to update their drivers so they can address this issue. Personally it sounds a bit like a "he said, she said" scenario. Apple support is sending me a 10.6.1 system restore disc for the iMac i7 (cost $18). I experienced the same issue regarding installing the retail 10.6.0. I actually think the 10.6.0 is missing drivers for the i7 (at least that's what it looks like in verbose mode). For $18 - i don't think troubleshooting the retail dvd is worthwile. I'll update when the dvd arrives.

cheers.

Works just fine.. What do you mean it wouldn't install? As in, would it not let you or what? You should be able to connect your USB drive. Restart the system and boot with 10.6 install CD, install to your USB drive...

Edit> Ah, I see. That could be. The i7 iMac probably was not supported on the 10.6 OSX release, it probably needs 10.6.1.

update. I contacted Apple support and was told that the imac 27 i7 supports 10.6.1 (not 10.6.0) So I'd need to purchase a copy of the 10.6.1 for $18. No biggie, did so, the disc finally arrived today - inserted the disc and guess what...I get a message saying Mac OS X 10.6 cannot be installed on this computer...wtf.

Has anybody tried installing 10.6.1 for matrox support?

thx

had the same experience. my 10.6.1 disc (sent by apple support) doesn't work on my iMac i7 (model iMac11,1) - I haven't had a chance to reach out to Apple just yet but hopefully I'll have more info in the next couple of days.

Oh, now, I just found 10.6.1 iMac disc. someone was selling on ebay, so I bought it.

I got the 10.6.1 installer DVD but it turned out to be exactly the same as Adil and Sid.

Jeff, we are finding i7 iMac requires the disc included in its box and not with the disc came with other machines nor the retail version.

It seems we have to wait for the 10.6.3 update (and not even sure if that fixes it).

There will be a fix for MXO very soon, so don't have to wait for 10.6.3.

New MXO driver will be available soon on the user forum.

It's been working good to me.

Do you know how soon?

I am about to downgrade to 10.6.1 but would love to avoid doing so...
