  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I'm scared to buy an iphone 4

Reception in areas my 3GS had a hard time with are vastly improved with the iPhone 4 for me. I am basing this on how 3G internet behaves in those areas.

I can reduce the bars by two or three (even on the new firmware) by using the left handed death grip but it has absolutely zero effect on my actual reception. I am testing this by loading an image heavy webpage holding the phone normally and with the death grip. The page loads at the exact same speed regardless of how many bars I have reduced with the death grip.

Read this how you want, but as far as I can tell from this detail Apple either just fired a shit-load of questionable antenna engineers or they're looking to bolster that dubious area of their operations at a coincidentally "timely" stage:

Another rumour I heard was that the disguising of iPhone 4's in field-testing with phone cases to make them look like iPhone 3G's may have inadvertently masked the "death-grip" issue:

IMHO Apple do unfortunately seem to be very slowly sliding inexorably downhill as their market share increases - antenna issues, signal display "innacuracies", lemon-infused iMac screens, poor software updates in general etc etc...

they r gettin too big for ther own good. too many problems to take care of and not enough ppl to take care of it. also their lack of acceptance when it comes to major issues with their products.

Don't be scared
I have an iPhone 4 and haven't had any problems
What a great phone
I came from a 3G
The iPhone 4 is faster
Better service
And the phone itself is awesome
Great pictures
Bright Flash for video and photo
Video cam looks unlike iPhone video

All around just an awesome piece of tech
I love it
The screen has to be seen for yourself and with high res images
An incredible clear display with such vivid color and way better than an apple 23 display or iMac
From an overly optimistic stand point
I was sitting next to someone at the all star game and the screen on their phone was like a vintage calculator
So... I guess I appreciate what I got

While it is easy to poke fun and over analyze the antannae problem
I have no problems with the bumper on or off
I also think it's the way of the world to fuss over needing a case to better the service.
When putting a case on such a nice phone/pocket computer is a priority to me and not a big deal at all.

Get the iPhone 4 and a nice/fun case
And not because apple tells you to
Because I'm telling you to
You won't regret it
Embrace the Martian
Haters gonna hate
Lovers gonna love

All this must be a Microsoft rumour I and some of my colleagues have Iphone 4 phones with O2 and have had absolutely no reception issues other than normal cell to cell changes. I have my own personal Iphone 3GS and comparing the two the signal is always the same at the same location. I do have a neoprene skin fitted to the phone so maybe thats the answer?
More importantly the software needs some slight revisions many of us accidently delete emails when scrolling down because the icon is in the centre of the screen at the bottom this is very annoying and the Bluetooth on the iphone is nowhere near as good as a Bleackberry for pairing up with in-car phone kits and giving good reception. I personally also find the qwerty keyboead too small to do texts quickly without catching the wrong key.

I wish someone would get so sick of their iphone 4 they'd sell it to me for a hundred bucks. Nothing a silicon case won't fix.

Any offers? :yesnod:

Listened to Steve Jobs explanation today and it certainly seemed well thought out and logical. I do like this phone over any one I've had before and have had absolutely no issues with it. They are standing behind their product and if you're not happy, you can get a full and complete refund. That's all anyone one should ever expect from a company, to stand behind what they sell. Apple and Red are two such companies.

Now, really, you have to agree that the Ipad is a useless piece of %"+*

Can't agree with that. I've got corporate clients who love the thing. I've written a medical app for in-house distribution for one of them. They're replacing laptops and tablet PC's with iPads and everyone is going nuts over the iPad there. It's cheaper, more responsive and less problematic. Also stupid-simple to use and deploy.

Love the iPad... If you're just sitting around on the couch surfing the net on it or reading iBooks and downloading crappy games/apps, wondering just why you spent $500+ on the thing, then you're not really using it. But I digress.

Biggest complaints I have with the iPad are ones I saw even before its official release and when I first started developing for it, before anyone outside of Apple even had one... No multi-user support. No iOS support for printing.

Would really love it if we could attach USB storage devices and/or if the thing had an SD card slot. But that doesn't hinder most of what it can do really well. The thing is pretty amazing and none of the competing products that I've seen coming up are even close to this, except for maybe Google's Android-based tablet, but I haven't seen that one yet. Next best one is the Asus one and it's a clunky POS by comparison. Ugh.

Seems like the number one requested feature from consumers is a front-facing camera. Big friggin' deal... I'm sure Apple will put that in the next revision, but I hope we get a 300+ dpi "retina screen" first. The medical community would be falling over themselves to buy iPads that can show scan and x-ray images at that level on a hand-held device.

The iPad is also the shiznit for entertaining the kids on long car trips or flights. Threw the portable DVD player away... Just rip the DVDs into iTunes and load up the iPad. 64GB model holds more than enough movies, TV shows, games and music to accommodate two kids on flights from Denver to Honolulu and back, and it has the battery life to do it.

I think the iPhone 4 looks great, and I'm planning to get one soon after it comes out in Australia (release date here is the 30th).

We have pretty good networks here, and my Dad's iPhone 3G gets far better reception than my current Motorola, so I'm not worried at all. In normal use (when you're not giving it the death grip) it's supposed to be better than the 3G and 3GS, so it should be fine.

running 4 iphone 4 one day after it was released ( uk modell ) and had no problems at all:) on 2 different providers.
what i found out that the bars are reacting more fast on the actual signal quality.
have arround 20 old iphones arround and serveral modems and stuff all running on 3gs.
they behave all the same: dropping 3gs dataflow in not so good supportet areas.
to make it clear: the problem is not the iphone or any other device
the problem is the signalquality of the different providers in different areas.
even the best antenna can't solve the problem of getting low signal over air.

and we know a lot of big antennas:)
