I'm not a filmmaker, what am I?

I like filmmaker, it's sophisticated and implies craftsmanship as apposed to movie maker which just sounds cheap.

The Hollywood unions redefined "film" as "image capture device" a long time ago, I think in the mid-1990s. I know of quite a few directors who still say "roll film!" when each take starts... even though there is no film. Heck, we still refer to "sound rolls" with audio, even though it's really just a folder with digital files.

You don't have a "dial" on a telephone, either, but we still "dial" a number when you call somebody. Lots of antiquated terms are still widely embedded in the English language, especially in America.

To me 'Film' and 'Movie' mean two very different things, but its all semantics. Filmmaker has always had a ring of indie shooter to me—literally because in the studio system you are defined by your specific role within the process— movie-maker just has a ring of big budget wannabe amateur shooters.

I also like to just use the word Storyteller, it conveys whatever I am doing in whatever medium I happen to be working in.
