  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I'll be the first to ask. . . Alchemy etc. update Cs5.5?

Hi David,

Thanks for the update but I am a little worry about how long it's taken Adobe to update the Epic plugin. What happened to the "plugin will be updated on a regular basis and in a timely matter"?...since its introduction at NAB 2011 there has been no updates at all. The plugin is still in "preview" status. NAB 2012 is fast approaching and still no audio support? still no alchemy or HDRX magic motion? Is this a sign of things to come on the speed of RED features implementation? That means the plugin will always be far behind of the capabilities of the camera (even Vegas has audio support already). I was under the impression that Adobe was working closely with RED so they would be on the ball with new features updates. what happened? Adobe has successfully converted plenty of FCP users to premiere cs 5.5...but please don't turn into Apple and start taking for ever to give us RED options. ;-)

Hi Maz,

I personally speak with people at RED at least once a month. We have a ton of projects in the works (see LR4 release) and it keeps us very busy. RED is an extremely important partner and we do our best to roll out support as fast as possible.

Look forward to more great things...

Cheers

Dave

Alchemy will be a little bit unfortunately... Audio should be sooner... If people like to hack, answer me this question. Go grad the LR4 download from adobe labs and see if epic audio works there... Then respond back here.

Cheers

David, I'm not familiar with Lightroom and don't wish to download it if it doesn't play nice with Epic 5k footage. So, does it... without some Epic Importer or another?

I think Adobe has done a wonderful job with CS5.5, and I'm grateful to have David involved in the forum here.

I will try Lightroom today and post here.

We've been hearing the audio support would be coming soon for months now... I don't understand what the hold-up is, or the refusal to commit to a timeline.

I hope the situation is rectified soon.

UPDATE: Audio appears to work in the LR4 beta. I say appears because when I click play, I heard a few seconds of audio before my system gets brought to its knees by 5k playback. :) Thanks to Adobe for adding this support! I'm not sure it's ready for primetime, but grateful to see the progress. I hope this finds its way into Premiere quickly.

Cheers,
Tim

Thanks for the reply David. By no means did try to say you guys are not busy. I apologize if it came off this way. I love the whole Adobe suite and Premiere has been awesome...and it's because it is awesome and see what it can do that we are constantly asking for more features! Looking forward to whatever you guys have in store for us! At this point I just want audio support. :)
Downloading LR4 and testing it! right now.

Thanks!

Something that "Might" work and it is seriously not supported... With LR4 installed go look for DynamicLinkMediaServer, in that app you will find ImporterRED.prm. Go to ppro and find the same file. Back that up... Put the ImpoterRED.prm into ppro. Maybe u will get lucky. Again I have no idea right now if this will work or not.

Worth trying... Don't do this during a production or in a non stable state. Back up the old one...

Cheers

David, you rock. Maz, please let us know if you tried this and if it worked.

ok guys...I GOT AUDIO TO WORK IN PREMIERE PRO CS5.5!!!!... :scared: but it takes a specific weird trick that you have to do in a specific order for it to work (not sure why but I am posting exactly what worked for me). This is on a window machine. But I believe it should work on a MAC....
Here are the steps: (please follow them precisely)

1) download and install LightRoom 4
2) move C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5\Plug-ins\Common\ImporterRED.prm to new backup folder of your choice
3) move C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5\32\ImporterREDServer.exe to new backup folder of your choice

4) now copy C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4\Support\DynamicLinkMediaServer\dynamiclinkmediaserver\1.0\Plug-ins\Common\ImporterRED.prm to
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5\Plug-ins\Common

5) Copy C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4\Support\DynamicLinkMediaServer\dynamiclinkmediaserver\1.0\ImporterREDServer.exe to
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5\32
6) launch Premiere Cs 5.5...you will now notice that NONE of your R3d are loading anymore....don't panic! Close Premiere and follow the next step
7) copy ONLY the original ImporterRED.prm that you copied initially to a backup folder and replace the existing (broken) one.
8) launch Premiere you can load your Epic file with audio support!

I have not tested its stability enough yet...but I have been editing for an hour and I have had no Problems. THANKS David McGavran for the hint!!!! :)

I don't want to start a new thread on this until other people confirm that it is working for them or until David says it's ok to advertise this. Keep in mind this is UNSUPORTED BY ADOBE!

Very cool... Thank you for the update Maz. Please let us know how it keeps up through your edit.

Now if only Adobe could deliver an official fix quickly.

Thanks so much for the info Maz.
I have got the same thing working on my Mac.

I will just add the paths in for the Mac users out there, other than that follow the steps above:

ImporterRED.prm = ImporterRED.bundle
ImporterREDServer.exe = ImporterREDServer.app

Location in Premier Pro CS5.5

Applications/Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5/Contents/Plug-ins/Common/importerRED.bundle
Applications/Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5/Contents/ImporterREDServer.app

Location in Premier Pro CS5.5
Applications/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4/Contents/support/DynamicLinkMediaServer/application/dynamiclinkmediaserver/contents/Plug-ins/Common/importerRED.bundle
Applications/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4/Contents/support/DynamicLinkMediaServer/application/dynamiclinkmediaserver/ImporterREDServer.app

i am getting 1 bug in premiere on the mac version the clips are black on the preview window. however when i drag them to the timeline the video appears.
It's important to get this working because that's window used to trim a clip before dragging or adding it to the timeline.
the audio is working

anybody else getting this bug?

Maz and David,

Thank you both for your work. I have now got Premiere and AE working (although the audio still isn't working, but I think that might be a hardware fault with my Epic). Here are the combined instructions for both Premiere and After Effects, with some small corrections:

This is on a Windows 7 machine. Here are the steps: (please follow them precisely)

1) Make sure you have installed the latest updates, so Premiere is at least CS5.5.2
2) download and install LightRoom 4
3) create a backup folder (NOT under C:\Program Files\Adobe)
4) create 2 subdirectories in your backup folder: \AE and \Premiere

5) copy C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5\Plug-ins\Common\ImporterRED.prm to your backup folder\Premiere
6) copy C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5\32\ImporterREDServer.exe to your backup folder\Premiere

7) copy C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS5.5\Support Files\(Media Core plug-ins)\Common\ ImporterRED.prm to your backup folder\AE
8) copy C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS5.5\Support Files\32\ImporterREDServer.exe to your backup folder\AE

9) now copy C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4\Support\DynamicLinkMediaServer\dynamiclinkmedias erver\1.0\Plug-ins\Common\ImporterRED.prm to both:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5\Plug-ins\Common
and
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS5.5\Support Files\(Media Core plug-ins)\Common

10) copy C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4\Support\DynamicLinkMediaServer\dynamiclinkmedias erver\1.0\ImporterREDServer.exe to both:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5\32
and
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS5.5\Support Files\32

11) launch Premiere CS 5.5.2...you will now notice that NONE of your R3D are loading anymore....don't panic! Close Premiere and follow the next step
12) copy your original backup folder\Premiere\ImporterRED.prm and replace the new (broken) one in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5\Plug-ins\Common
13) launch Premiere. You can now load your Epic files with audio support!

14) launch After Effects CS 5.5...you will get an error at startup complaining about the PRM file....don't panic! Close AE and follow the next step
15) copy your original backup folder\AE\ImporterRED.prm and replace the new (broken) one in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS5.5\Support Files\(Media Core plug-ins)\Common
16) launch AE. You can now load your Epic files and use effects such as Warp Stabilizer!

Keep in mind this is UNSUPORTED BY ADOBE!

Does anyone have a link to some R3D clips with some sound to test?

Well it's a good thing I have copy of the importers for Mac and PC then.... Maybe they took it out because they are releasing a new epic plugin... (finger crossed)
