  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Ikonoskop have listed corrections to their published specs plus more detail in their web blog....global shutter etc

Just got mail back. They have already full booked on first batch of cameras. All new pre-order are on waiting list. In 2 weeks they are going to have a workshop in stockholm and all are welcome there to play with the cam.

So you get a 80GB storage card at 240MB/s included with the camera while we are still waiting for 16GB CF cards or a $4500,00 64GB Flash drive...? :waaa:

sorry, but thats junk, very glad they have some orders but i personally cant understand why. to each their own i guess

I would have expected something a little more informed from you Jason. Quite clearly you have a vested interest in RED one (through your podcasts) and although I believe it to be a good tool it has taken some time to get there and in many respects, accessories, hasn't delivered at all..relying on third parties to solve their problems. To discard another affordable tool without informed commentary as junk is outrageous. If you took a step back and saw the niche they have found that the scarlet will never fill given its current spec then you would realise that a well conceived camera could do well. Although its nice to bandy around 3K for $3K if you don't have fast and flexible lenses your sunk. Small photosites due to trying to shoehorn 3K into the space usually occupied by 1080 or less sensors means less speed or greater noise...so I fail to see the benefit. With storage costs reducing every day and capacity growing and an open workflow on the way for DNG I fail to see why they can't succeed. If only judging by form factor, I would buy a DII over a scarlet any day of the week. Shear brilliance is the concept of placing the camera by your head rather than resting it on your palm propped on an arm that then rests on your hip.

That's nothing new. I remember buying a Creative Labs MP3 player just so I could rip out the 4GB micro drive CF card inside it. The card alone, buying from IBM, was well over $600, The MP3 player about half that.

To build a raid-0 ssd drive with 2x32GB flash cards just cost $400. Then you have 60MB/s with just of-the-self parts.

1x STARDOM CF SSD RAID-MODUL for 2.5" SATA 2XCF
2x SANDISK COMPACTFLASH EXTREME III 32 GB (30MB/s transfer speed in raid-0 for double speed)

Ah yes, but is it peak or sustained??? I suspect the sustained speads aren't going to get near what REDCODE needs, even with RAID-0.

4x CF?

4x CF?

Does anyone make a 4x CF or 8x CF for 120MB/s or 240MB/s?

Don't know. I just read the specs. But it would be cool to test :)
Older EXTREME III cards had sustained about 20MB/s, and in raid-0 would be about 40MB/s. ...and maybe enough for REDCODE 36, and more probable REDCODE 28.

I bought one of those for my laptop but it was flaky. Like sometimes it would show up and sometimes nada, zilch. Strange.

I used two SanDisk 8GB cards and in raid 0 it was slower than one card.

It seemed too good to be true.

Yes, the magic is in the raid-controller. If it's bad, it's bad  Some very expensive stuff I've used where useless, and sometimes just any cheap card works amazingly. Just test and see.

I really love the pictures from the Nox 2k camera... Ok, you are going to complain you could regret it can't shoot at a higher frame rate, but it looks like able to create truly wonderful image..

Who know more? :)
Any idea of the cost and availability?

Oh.. 2007? Did i miss something? Is it a dead project?

The Nox is not dead. They are advancing their camera and testing a lot. I've seen some slow motion tests of them (slow motion was not mentioned in the feature-list a year ago).
