Looks like these are finally shipping. I have the V8000 but cannot use it with my RED because it lacks HDMI input. It's a good monitor.

This is an EXCELLENT, low-cost monitoring option for the Red One.

"For those using prosumer batteries, you can still power the V8000HDMI with the Sony “L” series battery, but now you can use camera batteries from Cannon, Panasonic and others with our new DV battery adapter plates. "

Pardon the pun, but IKANNOT recommend any Ikan monitors. I had two of their V8000HD monitors. . . the precursor to this monitor, and both of 'em had problems. The first one was a mess. Nothing ever worked properly. The second one worked, but had dead pixels. I was extremely disappointed in them. When they worked, they looked pretty good, but nothing like the RED LCD, which I think is just amazing.

Anyway, that was my experience. YMMV.

I tried one of the first Ikan V8000HDMIs off the production line with a Red obut unfortunately it doesn't currently work with the red in any of its modes

too good to be true for that price, I guess.

so for HDMI on camera monitors, is it pretty much just Carrion? Or are there others that people recommend? Finner's review of the Carrion seemed pretty great. I'm just thinking of keeping the weight down as much as possible and the Carrion clocks in at 3 lbs.

Stephen I have to agree the v8000HD monitor wasn't exactly fantastic, but the V8000HDMI version seems to have addressed a lot of the issues and is more stable. We have been using one for the past few weeks and we really like it. It's a 995 monitor, so don't get your hopes up that it kills Red or Panasonic monitors, but for the price I find it to be a good buy, and definitely a step up from the V8000HD

Hi Josh:

I will have my V8000HDMI in one week. PM me in 7 days and I'll let you know.

I also saw another promising entrant at DVExpo - Marshall looks to be coming out with a new solution that has HDMI. It looks like they have seen the "onboard monitor light" and repented their rack mount ways. It's a lightweight monitor, interchangeable battery backs, has component i/o, HDMI option, the nice controls on front of monitor you would expect (pots instead of soft buttons) nice clean screen for about $990. Potential downsides are 800-600 spec'd resolution, and marshall monitors never seem to be the brightest of the bunch. Looked promising for the 10 minutes I spent with it.

So any confirmation regarding this monitor working with the Red One?

Also- does anyone have any other suggestions for a small light weight monitor? I would like to spend less then $1000 - ideally around $200 - $500. All I am looking for is a small LCD that I can feed the HDMI to for reference for framing - like on a crane, dolly, etc. If I am going to spend $1000, I'd rather just pony up and get a legit monitor like a Marshal or the Panasonic... but those seem like over kill for just framing use...

Ryan, I talked to somebody in the IKan organization that told me the monitor does not work with RED. I was hoping to use it as an inexpensive remote monitor for jib, etc. I guess it is not to be.

Bummer- oh well, thanks for the heads up. :)
