Hi guys new here,

If money was no object,

What applications, computer, software, Red Lenses, other Red accessaries and audio equipment would you purchase?

With the view to make the best quality independent films?

Best,

Robbie

Call Offhollywood, ask what they have, order the same.

if you are robbie fowler, ex fc liverpool player, you should be able to afford what they have...:)

Alright I'll re phrase that question,

If the budget was around 35,000 pounds / 70,000 dollars

What applications, computer, software, Red Lenses, other Red accessaries and audio equipment would you purchase?

With the view to make the best quality independent films?

many thanks,

robbie

Is 35,000 pounds ($70,000) the budget for camera, audio & editing only? Or will that also include lights, wardrobe, set construction, make-up, catering, office space, insurance, permits, legal, etc.?

No it's just for the equipment as listed. So computer hardware and software and Red One camera and accessories. To purchase.

Est. 70,000 dollars budget

thanks

Grab my book- I talk about a variety of different approaches to building a RED package at different budget levels. $70K will definitely get you something nice, not 'NO LIMITS' but nice. If someone said NO LIMITS to me for a RED package, I'd say you'd want a couple $100K up to a million depending on how ultimate and far you wanted to go.

My total Package is 11 primes(Elites),3 zooms from 11-80 T2,8,Lomo ana set, Wireless HD, MD 18, LMD5, FF4, Wireles FF, Oconnor 2060, 17"TV logic monitor, 8,4" Astro monitor, 30 filters,12 batteries, cables, clapboard, bncs, etc.(Everything is in watercut Storm cases).
I have everything for shooting a feature(shot 2 with this setup), but tried to save where I could and get deals where I could.
Was around $250K and growing. But between my many commercials and the 2 features I am over halfway into ROI in less than a year.

I would put it at about 350,000 for a nice full set up...comps and all...

Thats

4k Projector

Top Mac Pro

Colour Correction System

RED One all up and going with bells and whistles...+RPPs

Extra money left over is for storage and coffee to enjoy the system day in and out ;)

Robbie, you can get a very nice set-up if you are willing to do a few compromises. You'll need to go with Nikon or Canon glass for starters, or just buy one PL mount zoom lens. But, just ballparking here, here's what you could do:

1. RED set-up. . . basic camera, base production pack, monitor, batteries, drive, extra handles, etc. $28,000

2. Full set of nice Canon lenses (new, L-series primes): $10,000

3. Filter set (nothing fancy, just NDs): $1500

4. Easyrig 3 if you are going hand-held: $2500

5. O'Connor 1030HDS fluid head and sticks: $6000 new, less used.

6. Nice Mac 8-core computer for editing, with two monitors, lots of extras, and FCS 3: $10,000

7. Birger mount for the RED to use with the Canon lenses: $2000

You're now at about $60,000, and you can make great, great imagery with this. BUT, there is no audio. You're looking at a minimum of another $3000 for this (Schoeps CMC641, boom pole, Rycote zep, etc.), and that doesn't give you any lavaliers or an external mixer/recorder.

But, anyway you cut it, if you are willing to go with Canon or Nikon lenses, you'll definitely be able to do it all and do it very well, for $70,000.

Robbie, if you are looking to shoot things spontaneously then you'll want to purchase at least the bare minimum you would need to shoot and edit. If your shoots tend to be more planned out, then I think it makes sense to look into renting, if there is a rental house conveniently located near you. Purchasing gear gets out of control really quickly. Just when you think you've got everything, you'll need more.

Can you provide a bit more information about the types of projects you will be doing?

1. Are they films you will be producing/directing/shooting? Or will you be providing services to other filmmakers?

2. What will be the average budgets of these films?

3. What genres do you work in?

4. What's the end goal?

What I would do for around that amount.

1. Red one w/CF module 18,000

2. Basic production pack, LCD, 2 Red Drives, 2 cables. 5500

3. 3 batteries from Powerenz- they claim to have double capacity for 50 dollars more- 1800

4. RED Primes- 19,000

5. Mac Tower w/ FC Studio with RED Rocket from Silverado Systems- guessing 11,000

6. O'conner 2060 w/sticks 10,000

7. Follow Focus system from View Factor Studios - 2600

8. MB20II Mattebox 5,000

9. Format Filter set from Abel Cine 1,000

10. Two Sennheiser G3 wireless mics- 1,000

11. One good Sennheiser Shootgun mic w/boom pole 1,500

12. Four channel wireless mixer- 4000

Best guesstimate of $80,400 US

Pretty close to your price. If you picked up some of the items used- you would come in well under $70,000 US
